I should have phrased it better, I meant memoirs, essays, poetry, novels. Anything that comes up on english google is by le revoltion types and designed and marketed in a very biased way, and others are just corny refugee writing. pic related is the stuff that gets marketing campaigns. I wanted to read something by patriotic syrians that aren't really in a specific political camp and grieve for their country going up in flames.

yeah those are bad too, but I don't know russian and arabic so can't really give accurate examples of them.

The shit is too complicated for people outside of Syria and even people inside have a hard time summarising what the fucking fuck went on.

>>12072690
At least the Western ones (assuming we talk about reputable papers) have the pretence for actual information sprinkled with propaganda. Russian news are full of whataboutery and factual bullshit, and most idiotic Westerners who parrot Russian propaganda don't even realize just how fucked journalism in Russia is. Even the average toilet paper tier stuff like The Sun or DM look like Pulitzer winners compared to the crap.

Whataboutery and holding people to same standards are different fucking things, the former is done in a deflective way, which instead of painting a more complete picture, is having a toddler with crayons mess it all up even further.

>> No.12072795

>>12072789
or it's calling to attention facts that are uncomfortable for the person involved. If youre saying that some action needs to be taken against Russia for something theyve done, then it,'s perfectly valid to point out if the US did it as well, and nobody said anything needed to be done about it, because it's showing that it's not the action that matters, it's who does it.

>> No.12072821

>>12072795
Sure but you are not talking about whataboutery but basic ass objectivity. Russian media does the former AND lack the latter, while Western media only somewhat struggles with the latter part.

And then the mess gets even worse when you add realpolitik. Murica and some of their allies caused way more damage than Russian can dream about, but you can't realistically boycott them without fucking up your economy.
When it's more balanced, you have a situation and USA and China bitching about each others hackers but not being able to act due the dependance.

You say this as if this was a better state of affairs. You've obviously never read any of the early propaganda books by Bernays, et. al. The best propaganda is exactly that. So while places like Russia or China can be immediately seen as hamfisted attempts at persuading people, the West has a more insidious media and propaganda system.

You are so thoroughly propagandized that you don't even know it.

From the outside when you have other sources available.

Besides while the Western approach is more sophisticated and hence harder to see through, the bits of objectivity make the picture painted more complicated and in times of information overload it's frustrating, so some people are more likely to go for the black and white shit. Majority of literature about propaganda was written during a completely different time on almost every level, these days Bernays is the equivalent of Freud.

>From the outside when you have other sources available.

From the outside of what? The country? The original context of your moronic claims was the entire global media eco-system that targets different audiences irrespective of their geography (certain westerners consuming Russian media; which btw, is probably yet another overblown thing by the establishment western media similar to the "russian hackers" that consisted of a bunch of morons on social media posting memes).

>Besides while the Western approach is more sophisticated and hence harder to see through, the bits of objectivity make the picture painted more complicated and in times of information overload it's frustrating, so some people are more likely to go for the black and white shit.

>Majority of literature about propaganda was written during a completely different time on almost every level, these days Bernays is the equivalent of Freud.

lmao you have no idea what you are talking about. Contemporary PR and communications still derives much of its strategy from classical rhetoric, which is exactly what Bernays did. The foundation for his texts wasn't the psychology of the time, it was a few thousand years of rhetoric and oration scaled up to apply to the mass media system. The problem is that you are a liberal bugman who sees everything in terms of SCIENCE! It's no wonder you take a fence-sitting approach while simultaneously making excuses for a media system that lied about wars over and over. You absolutely disgusting warmongering piece of shit.

>Contemporary PR and communications still derives much of its strategy from classical rhetoric

Repeating thousands of variations of banal memes isn't classic rhetoric. (You know, the "establishment western media" bullshit) And modern mass media is nothing like the news papers or even television, where content was at least slightly curated. Social media bubbles, targeted news and bots might have some abstract basis and traces in established concepts (just like Psychology and Freud) but current overexposure and news as entertainment create a different dynamic between the audience and the media; before we even touch how most newspapers are scrapping by, and how modern propaganda focuses more on demoralisation than calls to action that go beyond consumption.

> making excuses for a media system that lied about wars over and over.
Western media goes beyond Faux News. Even in Murica, a decent part of the newspapers were sceptical. Only the broadcast sector was mostly pro war, but given how it was owned by huge corporations, it's given. Besides, once again an example how the modern media landscape is nothing alike, when some random blogger or a YT talking head can target hundreds of thousands of people.

Do you really think anything by a patriotic Syrian could get past the corporate censures? Maybe in a few decades after a civilized country replaces the US as hegemon.
