so far from what i've read (the 80 or so pages)
this book is just full of over generalizations made by some brit.
Basically it says we'll never understand why koreans are the way they are and they have no love for their country but they love their people.

The book was an incredible primer on the subject. After one time reading it, I was able to lead a friend of mine on a tour of Seoul and answer all his questions. Up until the narrative leaves off in the 1990s. It could use an update, but the dude quit as Seoul's AP Bureau Chief after that and moved back to London. Overall, a really useful book that has a smattering of ancient history, and isn't glib with its cultural observations. The author married a Korean. He shies away from stereotypes himself, but, he will quote Koreans stereotyping themselves.
