for an exam we can be posed questions for solving eigenvalues that involve solving cubics by hand, to me this seems unfair given a time restraint and the relatively dumb concept. to me it seems you'd never have to solve a cubic by hand operating in the real world. i can usually do them it just takes far too long and is inefficient for an exam that is only 120 minutes.
is it for or unfair to expect solving of a cubic by hand in exam conditions?
yes i know if i wasn't a brainlet i could solve them quickly.

On a test by hand they are going to give you cubic polynomials that factor nicely, ie into Integers. Also this isn’t /lit/ related.

nice lit thread retard, and yes if you want to be a stem meme then you have to jump through hoops like doing stupid math problems on a timer

Is this what people with maths degrees waste their life doing?

The Algebraic Eigenvalue problem is one of the leading areas of Numerical Mathematics; so yes. But we do it with computers, obviously.

Only in high school you solve them by hand, grow up
