The parties aren't really that different, but the things they disagree on are pretty opposed. Those items are not non-trivial simply because Europe and people who wished they lived in Europe think they are.

My guess is that most of the supposed Christians here never went to church on a daily basis, follow it because it makes them "feel good" (i.e. indoctrinated at a young age) and have never read the Bible in it's entirety. I did, became an atheist overnight after doubting for years.
