>I wish someone had just told me the truth right up front, as soon as I was old enough to understand it. I wish someone had just said: “Here’s the deal, Tom. You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this planet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evolution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-powerful dude named God who lives up in the sky? Total bullshit. The whole God thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. We made it all up. Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. “Oh, and by the way … there’s no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. Also bullshit. Sorry, kid Deal with it.”

damn... how can you even live the same way after reading this book?

I agree, I'd be troubled for the rest of my life after reading such oversimplified nonsense

does it sound like the kind of thing a person named "Ligotti" would say? Just pronounce the name "Ligotti" to yourself and picture what this person looks like, what he sounds like, what he smells like, what beliefs he holds dear etc.

Oh boy, here come the anons to bitch about the book that is more about just putting his thoughts on paper than a straight up philosophy book.

to be frank, you need to have a fairly high IQ (i.e. study a STEM discipline) to understand insights like this. no offense meant, but you should probably start a little smaller. have you read Dune?

can't find the quote in the book at the moment, but there's a part where Ligotti asks if there's any real, valid reason to procreate that is solely and entirely for the benefit of the hypothetical offspring, that they'll really be better off existing than not
i can't think of a good answer, but if you can that's something to consider

>can't think of a purely altruistic reason to bring children into the world
>do it anyway because my friends are doing it / I would prefer to pass on my genes and family "legacy" / I need some extra hands to help with the housework

and the world keeps spinning. are we building towards something greater? fuck if i know - i'm playing the role i was made for

this isn't intended as a sermon or an indictment, only an honest rendering of my own mindset

I'm honestly kind of upset that this guy has become a meme here, as it will probably put people off of reading his work which is actually really good. None of this does justice to any of his thoughts or arguments.

He really belongs more in the realm of Nick Land's work or the CCRU stuff than anything else. I wouldn't call his stuff philosophy really.
One thing to take away is that he is one of the few people to do much through analysis of Zapffe's thought in English which is really something special to me. His reading of Zapffe is actually very good analysis and is the highlight of the book, it is definitely worth reading.

It's from Ready Player One, you retards. OP is trolling Thomas Ligotti fans. The Conspiracy Against the Human Race is extremely pessimistic about religion, society, and humanity in general but Ligotti can write and he presents his views in interesting ways whereas Ernest Cline is a talentless hack who has an /r_atheism tier outlook on the world.
