Nah, Nabokov is one of the most overrated writers ever. He is probably the most pretentious twat you could ever read. But it's so fake and phony. Dude reads like he had a dictionary open at all times and chose all the weirdest words he could find and just mixed them in. Totally unnatural. A huge phony.

It's a book about a young girl who is kidnapped of and serially raped by an old man. There are pages and pages of creepy descriptions of her. Yes, he avoids much of the sex talk, which is a good thing, but it's so obvious what is going on. Need I give examples? How about the bargaining of money for blowjobs? The book is fucking sick and it takes a pervert to write it. Just like it took a pervert to write Death in Venice (Mann admitted to being sexually attracted to his own boy son; I'm sure Nabokov was just more clever about admitting to his own perversion, he hid in plain sight though). Anyone who reads this book is probably a sick-minded atheist. I read it when I was seventeen. I didn't know, anon. I don't know.. please avoid that shit. Spare yourself the vivid hallucinations of a child rape. Read something wholesome and heroic, not the depraved and debased raving of a pretentious twat of a man.

Pic related is Jesus BTFOing all perverts ITT.

Fuck I remember reading that book in my university library. I had a coffee at McDonald's and they had that strange "get a prize" gimmick going on. I got a small ticket with a promo-code to get a free ebook on some obscure site. I was sitting in this library one day, trying to understand Kant's critique and occasionally chatting with a law student who got a stack of Latin textbooks, when I remembered about the ticket. I got onto a public computer, next to a window overlooking my campus and logged in to get a free ebook. They had a small selection of available ones, but eventually I stopped on Lolita, drawn by the name of its famous author, Nabokov. I sat there in silence, reading with my eyes wide, for 5 or 6 hours, while the world outside turned grey, rain caressing my ears with its soft drumming on that damn window. Eventually I shut the computer down and left for home, promising myself to never open that book ever again.

It is a pedo fantasy, but he deliberately put enough ambiguity in so he could get away with it and pseuds could stroke their chins and say 'ahh, haktuwally it's Literature and not grubby fap-fest'. It's literally shallower than meets the eye.
This is why its babby's first 'complex' book. Its the sort of novel someone like Bono would say is his favorite because he thinks it makes him sound clever because he thinks he's seen through the initial impression to read between the lines, even though the initial impression is accurate.

You see *sniff* there is an old joke that the priest on the train is reading Proust, but inside the Proust is concealed a copy of playboy, *sniff* and the revolutionary sat next to the priest is reading a Playboy, but inside the Playboy he is secretly reading Proust.
