What good books (not pop history/bestseller tier) are there about organized crime/the mafia?

Selwyn Raab wrote an exhaustive history of the American mafia that I really liked.

Not OP but thanks I'll check it out. Love international/other nations stuff also so it's nice when I see Yakuza recommendations among other things on here.

I've read a lot of true crime and mob history stuff, so this is going to be a pretty dense list:

>Brutal by Kevin Weeks (autobiography of one of Whitey Bulger's enforcers)
>I Heard You Paint Houses by Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran (a hitman for the Chicago outfit who worked closely with Jimmy Hoffa)
>Making Jack Falcone by Joaquin Garcia (undercover FBI agent biography; has a lot of "life and style" mob elements, and is a good look at today's NY families)
>The Way Of The Wiseguy by Joe Pistone
(old but good)
>Donnie Brasco by Joe Pistone
>Underboss by Sammy "The Bull" Gravano (the Bible of 90's mafia knowledge)
>Five Families by Selwyn Raab (basically a giant mob encyclopedia with a complete history of every infamous wiseguy)
>Wiseguy by Henry Hill (a lot of this one is unsubstantiated)
>The Godfather by Mario Puzo (a fun fiction read)

Those are the absolute best ones, with only Brutal being slightly weak in terms of content. I'm sure there are plenty of others, but you'll likely enjoy these the most.
