"Alternative" could easily mean anything that falls outside of the Analytical or Post-Structural orthodoxies. Something's ethnic origin doesn't make it "alternative", it's content would have to do that.

Chinese philosophy is largely only somewhat different interpretations of the same stuff. Based on reverence of tradition, original works only claimed to be reiterating the lost traditions of the ancients and after them it became almost heresy and hubris to develop original thought so that wanted to do that had to do so through commentary on those classics. It's all worth reading, but don't assume you'll be getting anything like Western "systems" of thought that are just complicated nonsense thoughts on thinking itself.

Mencius, xunzi, mozi, zhuxi, wang yangming are the better known figures.
