if you aren't gonna throw molotov cocktails at a police station why even pretend calling yourself an egoist is somehow edgy

Why was Marx so anally devastated by egoism again?

It seems perfectly compatible with historical materialism and Engels himself seemed quite infatuated with Stirner.

Rand was an "egoist" who thought there were universal moral truths that everyone had an obligation to live by, i.e., she wasn't a fucking egoist at all.

Wrong.
A. Rand is better than sliced bread
B. The observation by her is simply you can do whatever you want in life (barring the initiation of force) but if you want to do it well you're going to have to understand the opperants of reality and fully integrate their principles and higher still meta-principles. Not evade them, and if you're going to evade you're going to flail ineffectually through life. That's it.
Rand is the egoist. She makes an embarrassment of Nietzsche's and Stirner's and by no small margin.

she applies those as universal truths to all people. Are you dense

>> No.11904198

>>11904114
>Those
What specifically does she apply to all people? The only "universal truths" she posits apply to all men are, at base, the 3 axioms. Pretty much everything else in her philosophy is meta assessment of (pay attention now) *contextual truths.
Rand's great historic distinction is that she was the first to discover to what degree the contextuality of concepts matter.
>the discovery of the intrinsic/subjective/objective trichotomy
>the formulation of psycho-epistemology
>the identification of several new logical fallacies
>Rand's Razor
>the, not solving, but invalidating of Hume's Is/Ought problem
All philosophically earth shattering.

To elaborate: selfishness does not mean being an asshole (necessarily). All it means is putting oneself above everything else, which is what The Ego and Its Own is all about. If I happen to enjoy the company of another and therefore keep them around, that's not me being altruistic. I enjoy their company and so I keep them around out of self-interest.

Read the book.
