Suppose Kavanaugh is innocent and the rape accusation is simply an attempt at slandering the American judiciary. I am happy the presumption of innocence prevailed over the fascism of the #metoo Listen and Believe era. Even if I don't like a conservative dominated Supreme Court and Kavenaugh's positions on many issues.

On the other hand I also dislike a leftist dominate Supreme Court. Gay marriage should not have been pushed through by the judiciary branch of government. That was the job of the legislative branch. It is an erosion of the separation of powers, just like the habit of both Obama and Trump to enforce their will by executive orders, which then later get overruled by their predecessors anyway. Maybe a conservative dominated Supreme Court can remove some of the activist rulings of the previously left dominated Court.

I am mildly optimistic, but also somewhat worried.

Pretty obvious rape allegations were going to become the new mccarthyism if it actually worked. Still sucks but we probably dodged a much bigger bullet.
