On the Ethics of the alleged perjury:

Suppose Kavanaugh is innocent and the rape accusation is simply an attempt at slandering the American judiciary. He would therefore be under no obligation to tell the truth, as in statements congruent with the accusation's, since the accusation's principle is slander and any statements circumstantial or incidental to the rape accusation itself are made in bad faith, even if they are true. Conceding to the technical truth will only sway public opinion in the accusation's favor, thus slandering the judiciary. Since said judiciary's purpose is to supersede any one person and its members' purpose to maintain it so at the expense of their personal affairs, jurisprudence ultimately dictates that Kavanaugh's conduct of disagreeing with the accusation is right, provided his innocence.

That said, Ford is exceptionally insufferable and I hope he DID rape her.

/lit/ - Literature

lit/ is for the discussion of literature, specifically books (fiction & non-fiction), short stories, poetry, creative writing, etc. If you want to discuss history, religion, or the humanities, go to /his/. If you want to discuss politics, go to /pol/. Philosophical discussion can go on either /lit/ or /his/, but ideally those discussions of philosophy that take place on /lit/ should be based around specific philosophical works to which posters can refer.

It's amusing to watch liberals implode while fighting the wrong battles. Fixating on Dr. Ford and not Kavanaugh's unpublished documents, beliefs on birth control, etc. has done much to undermine the supposed "blue wave" we were supposed to see in November.

No one can. This man is not fit to be a Supreme Court Justice. Gone are the days of old, when the justice would have to be rather skilled at being a decent human being and refraining from drinking excessively.

Now he wears it like a badge of honor and the decision whether to admit him is not based on internal guilt but shame.

I was talking about this with my coworker the other day: modern politics is a fucking sham

I am happy the presumption of innocence prevailed over the fascism of the #metoo Listen and Believe era. Even if I don't like a conservative dominated Supreme Court and Kavenaugh's positions on many issues.

On the other hand I also dislike a leftist dominate Supreme Court. Gay marriage should not have been pushed through by the judiciary branch of government. That was the job of the legislative branch. It is an erosion of the separation of powers, just like the habit of both Obama and Trump to enforce their will by executive orders, which then later get overruled by their predecessors anyway. Maybe a conservative dominated Supreme Court can remove some of the activist rulings of the previously left dominated Court.

I am mildly optimistic, but also somewhat worried.

Drinking in college does not make one an alcoholic and unfit for service, it makes one a regular human being. If you don't drink in college then you are abnormal. That’s exactly my point. Society had fallen. We had, at one point, banned alcohol completely.

I know I drank in college, but why should that matter? Why does it seem like we need alcohol to socialize these days? Is morality that caustic?

I'd have to agree with this, not only in this case but on a more general level too. If someone is making accusations against you in bad faith and you telling the truth would only turn others against you because of minute details that make you look bad when hyper-analyzed, you are simply not obligated to tell the truth.

I guess you are a man of bait. Polygraphs are not conclusive and not permitted as evidence in legal proceedings for this exact reason. They can be cheated with training and they give false positives. Despite that, the man is innocent until proven guilty. And there was no evidence and no corroborating witnesses for the accusation, nothing that would even warrant any form of legal proceedings.
