Fake News Comes to Academia
How three scholars gulled academic journals to publish hoax papers on ‘grievance studies.’

https://www.wsj.com/articles/fake-news-comes-to-academia-1538520950

>The existence of a monthly journal focused on “feminist geography” is a sign of something gone awry in academia. The journal in question—Gender, Place & Culture—published a paper online in May whose author claimed to have spent a year observing canine sexual misconduct.

So we can all agree that peer review is dead as an argument for validity.

As a physicist I'm very surprised peer reviewing even lasted so long. A lot of reviewers did not understand my work regardless of accepting it or not and the work was never questioned further even by other specialists, as long as that one guy years before said it was OK for the Computational Physics Communications. I can only guess we used to piggyback on the former prestige of science due to scientists being mostly aristocrats or at least from more or less well connected families. Now that we are all Ahmeds, Zhangs and Arjuns we can't get away with that anymore. Neither Sokal nor the modern equivalents showed anything surprising to academics.

No dogs having non consensual sex is apparently due to the patriarchy

I just read an article about several science journals that were going to go ahead and publish something made up entirely of rick and morty fake science.

Why does subscribing to a journal cost so much if no one is actually checking what they're publishing.

>implying animals know consent
Are we seeing a return to romanticism of nature?
