Post stacks and other anons tell you the next book you should read.

I’m no home right now so pic related isn’t my actual stack, but I’m traveling so it’s pretty small:

We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy by Ta-Nehisi Coates
“A” by Louis Zukofsky
Arabian Nights translated by Richard Burton
The Complete Short Stories by Ambrose Bierce

Help me out, brers. Also keep in mind I’m reading a collection of modern Japanese short stories for class over the next few months.

I can only really read one book at a time. Call me a brainlet but that's the best way I can remember plots and stuff without getting all jumbled up.
Currently reading Roadside Picnic by Arkadey Strugatskey. I was a little put off by the chapter size, as I typically read around 1 or 2 "normal" sized chapters a night before bed, but I tried to find a decent stopping point but the breakneck pace makes that kind of hard. I don't mid the pacing, though. I like books that don't waste your time with meandering bullshit.

Same. It’s only about 30 seconds of confusion and reconnecting the dots but I’m also sure there are several details I’m forgetting that would make the story more meaningful, if even subconsciously.

What’s a “normal” sized chapter to you? 10-15 pages?

Read something which interests you, not some meme canon. Michael Bay of literature kinda books. After not really reading for years I pretty much inhaled Dumas Mount of Monte Christo and afterwards just stick to several 20 minutes daily. I usually read before leaving bed, before going off work/ on the way, in my lunchtime, after dinner and at last before bed time - combined I read 100 minutes daily. No one says you need to read it at once and it also gives you time to digest the more complex works or at leat think about what just happend.

I'm new to /lit/ and am amazed at how little fun any of you seem to have. You all seem to be convinced, since smart people read serious books, that reading serious books makes you smart. If you want classics go read some old-school pulp like Sherlock, Conan or Lovecraft (yeah, I know it's a meme, but it's a good one).

Oh no, I have fun with it. The thing is some classics which other works are based off of don’t age well, and I’m met with the phrase, “don’t read that, it’s old and boring. I don't really know, I don't really follow the numbers and more logical breaks in the text. I average 250wpm for an easy book, which is around a full side, so I guess something around 17 pages per sitting and 80 pages a day. But I don't really read fiction or stuff you fly through but mostly educationals in scientific, philosophical or political areas so taking short breaks to order ones thoughts is important and retention more than the speed of going through it. Just ignore the speedreedng autism if you read for knowledge and pleasure.

What kind of immigrant? What are your interests? There aren't too many good german books for beginners which aren't first about politics for which you should have read the classics like Herodot first idealy. If you like archeology I would recommend you Schmidts Göbekli Tepe or Cerams "Götter , Gräber und Gelehrrte", but that's pretty much just german in language. Have you read Goethe? The man who possesses outstanding personal qualities will rather see most clearly the faults of his own nation, for he has them constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool, who has nothing in the world whereof he could be proud, resorts finally to being proud of the very nation to which he belongs. This was out of fear that the minority English would agitate and win similar rights for english language education in Quebec itself.
A case of irony that is truly bizarre, the French in Quebec suppressed any movement of French language rights outside of their province to keep down the English minority they had within Quebec.

I have a copy of the biography of Alexander Bumboldt, which is the only female non kid lit writer on my shelves. It was okay, but exceptions don't make the rule. Mary is pretty well know for her political nature and trying to shittalk the west. She was the one saying after a press conference days after 9/11 that americans had it coming for their imperialism and is strong on importing more immigrants. People with such penetrant attitudes always write shit into their books, and women sadly have far more often such retarded ideas about politics and even if not, rarely any new ideas to bring to the table.

Just take the documentary "DW Secrets of the stoneage" which I saw yesterday from a female producer, pretty much every 15 minutes she claimed that the people were egalitarian, immigration made them great, that we are all tuks and arabs to beginn with and in 2018 still claim we am out of africa and that those early humans were strong on female empowerment and even matriarchal (probably) while lacking anything to base it on.

That's also why I said that anything shilled will most likely be trash and your example is pretty antique and little known in relation.
