Regular /g/ here. Literature sucks. Writers, dramatists and other idiots never, ever solved any practical problems of mankind. All they ever did was write stuff 99% of people never read or needed in life. All the great achievements and solutions of mankind were done by scientists and economists. So long, bookworms!

So literally everything you do has practical value to the world? You never just have fun or relax? That doesn't have practical value to you?

If he's an IT type, he'll likely pride himself on the amounts and troves of "free time" he has, then only causing him to consume mediocrity for the rest of his life.

I'd hate to ever be "useful" to society. Being useful means somehow contributing to progress and advancing capitalist economies.
I would rather write to entertain myself than to help contribute to exploitation and environmental degradation.

Maybe it's different for other people, but my life has improved ever since I started reading regularly. My reading speed has increased threefold, I can communicate better when writing and speaking, it stimulates my imagination when I put down an exciting book and think about all the possible ways the story could unfold, and my reading comprehension has gone way up. It also makes for a good conversation when you meet someone who's read the same book as you. I've made a couple of new friends that way. Give reading another chance fren, you just need to find the right books for you!
