I've never really read fantasy like this. Plenty of fictional literature but unless I'm forgetting something LOTR is the only "elves and orcs" type fantasy book I've ever read.

Not looking for anything deep or particularly well-written, just a light story to get immersed in.

asoiaf

Are you a man? Then Tolkien is all you should've read. And if you're a woman then never post here again.

>> No.11761834

You shouldn't read either. You're an adult, or at least a teenager. You're too old for that juvenile crap.

Yes

Are they genuinely bad or are they just bad enough that you can't gain street cred on literature message boards? Because the second one isn't a problem, I read Agatha Christie regularly as well.

Witcher is only decent if you know Polish for the original text: the translations are terrible. A Song Of Ice And Fire starts out good, great even, but plummets into unprecedented nadirs of boredom and cringe after book three, and it's unlikely it ever gets resolved. On the whole you're probably better off not picking up either.

Instead, read good fantasy such as Conan the Barbarian, Tigana, Gormenghast, Xanth, or anything by Tolkien.

read the first book of witcher and then read asoiaf

if you MUST read fantasy, read Gormenghast. There's better stuff in scifi if you want shallow genre fiction to be immersed in

>Gormenghast
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into those.

I've read the first Dune and the first Dark Tower but neither really inspired me to pick up the second book of the series. Dune was significantly better though, but I felt satisfied at the end like the story was complete.

Look into more classic scifi (Dick, Le Guin, etc.). I personally really enjoy Neuromancer but that's partially due to nostalgia so look into that at your own leisure.

No it's not that. He's an old autistic pervert that has nothing interesting to say. If you wanna read some greasy old dudes sex fantasies you can do that online for free and it's most likely better literature than asoiaf

Witcher is better, and it also has more descriptions of cute girls.
