A vocal reading can be helpful for appreciating a text purely for its rhythm/melody but there's more than that to writing and listening or subvocalizing too much can interfere with fully appreciating a text past its musicality. Listening to a reading is nice but a book is meant to be read, I only listen to audiobooks of things I'm already familiar with
