I'm all for adaptation of language, but there are certain words we should leave alone, such as there/their/they're, because they are part of the basic foundation of the english language.

I rarely feel the need to correct anyone's anything unless I'm under the impression that they give a shit and would be grateful.

Since english is not my frst languague, I like being corrected if I am wrong with something but if you were born with a language and you studied it in school, you at least need to make an effort to speak or write good.

It's ironic, because that same teenager is probably delivering 3000 texts a month with poor grammar. Pointing out shoddily-construed sentences is really just an exercise of convenience.

I'm sure at least half of these so-called grammar Nazis will grow beyond the habit, as it's a fair assumption that most are teenagers or young adults, while the other half have unfortunately reached the ceiling of their maturity. That's life, the more you mature, the faster you discern where people have stunted; for the most part, high school is that ceiling.

The expressions kind of or sort of to mean "rather," "partially," or "somewhat" are nonstandard.


Both expressions literally mean "type of" or "variety of."


Incorrect: The child felt kind of lonely.

Correct: The child felt somewhat (or rather) lonely.

Correct: The kestrel is a kind of falcon.
(A type or variety of falcon)


When using kind of or sort of always use a singular object of the preposition of. If the object is plural, then use kinds of or sorts of.


Examples: What kind of salad is this?
(Kind and salad are both singular.)

There are all sorts of fruits in this salad.
(Sorts and fruits are both plural.)
