How long will it take us to collectively quit browsing one of the dullest boards in the history of image boards. Seriously each screencap showing Thomas Pynchon and his friends from the maximalist movement as they write about nonsense has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the hackneyed imagery, the board’s only consistency has been its lack of originality and ineffective use of allusion, all to make literature unliterary, to make intelligence seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when /lit/ vetoed the idea of actually discussing books; they made sure the board would never be mistaken for a place of culture that meant anything to anybody, just a ridiculously profitable source of increasingly forced memes. /lit might be anti-intellectual (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-/rBooks in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the memes are good though
"No!"
The greentexts are dreadful; the personalities are terrible. As I browsed, I noticed that every time /lit/ wanted to help out a newfag, they instead said "Start with the Greeks."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. /lit/'s mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that they have no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of /lit/ by the same /tv/ posters. They wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are browsing /lit/ at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to browse /tv/." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you browse /lit/you are, in fact, trained to browse /tv/.

/lit/ isn't actually about literature. It's unironically about posing as someone who's into literature.

Sometimes there are decent threads, but they are more to do with metaphysical / sociological speculation than anything to do with actual literary works.

For the most part, this place is just for dejected 18-25 year old bourgeois males to create an identity around reading Infinite Jest and having entry-level understandings of western philosophers.

Today I've seen at least three, No Shit Sherlock instances, where someone comes on to gloat about some factoid which was already covered in the thread. If you can't read threads, why do I want to talk with anon about books? Seriously doubt you read those either. Maybe pic is related to brain fog. Please spaghetti monster, let this be my final-forever post.

The problem is fictionfags. They are the bane of literary existence. They have no creativity and only write about fairies and dragons and shit.

Nonfiction is where it’s at: floods and divine miracles with whales, and mathematics and spirituality. Fuck fiction, that shit is lame and over with, and they can’t fabricate a story like non-fiction can.
