True, SEA in general is a cultural sponge for so long and the resistance against cultural change is not so much there in comparison with the other regions.

>The way things are spelled compared to the way they are spoken makes it very difficult to read and write in those languages.
I agree, the people of Malay archipelago have changed drastically their writing tradition by replacing the old sanskrit/local alphabets with Arabic during the rise of Islamic kingdoms(and through the Islamisation of the region in general) that replaced the previous Hindu/Buddhist traces with what was trending at that time. Written language was a privilege taught and practiced only by the elites while the language of the lower caste was only possible to be transmitted verbally. Which is why some of their intellectuals have the opinion that the adoption of Arabic seems to have produced a liberating impact from the oppression of the old empire, since they tried to make it more accessible for the common people.

I think it's the culture. I had to fight really hard with my parents just to pursue an English major. From a young age, you're pressured to pursue something practical if you have a modicum of talent, e.g. engineering, medicine, law, business, accounting, etc. If you do something impractical, you'll never hear the end of it from your parents and extended family.

An old ('70) universal history books collection i have in my house had a chapter dedicated to this place. Basically it said that south-east asia is a strange place, where Indian and Chinese cultures clashes and mix, and while the local populations have some things in common with the others, they cant be classified as an unique cultural block, like India, China, Western Europe or the Islamic world

So instead of creating literature, they simply took the Chinese and Indian ones, depending about the region (and later, in Indonesia, Islamic literature too) and thus there wasnt any reason to start develop something culturally unique to the zone, because they blindy workshipped other culture works as the bests

>> No.11713579

>>11713547

Continuing, a local power capable of unify the culture of the SEA region could have mixed Indian and Chinese cultura heritages to something unique, but as i said, no one was able to do that, so the west remained orbiting around India, the north around China, and later the south went on his own way, and all those zones still today share few aspects between each other

So rather that an area, SEA should be considered a place where Indian, Chinese, and Islamic worlds limbs meets each other without mend

Biggest influence from the outside is between China and USA, with both sides splitting the region up in their own power games with one another. It helps that the Chinese diaspora is often the conduit for said outside influence.

I get so pissed when people interpret western history like some eternal battle between Semites and Indo-Europeans where the Semites are worse at everything but somehow control Indo-European civilization and also everyone has always had an instinctual loyalty to members of their only recently classified language families.
What kind of fucking alien spaceship crashed in the steppe to turn the Indo-Europeans into the supermen these faggots romanticise them as? That some divine event occurred that blessed them with the power of spirituality and creativity so they could go forth and create the most spiritually bankrupt society in history.
And the fucking WEWUZZING too. I'm to believe that the Sumerians, who lived before the Indo-European expansion and absurdly far away from their homeland were some kind of lost tribe of Israel. That I should start off with the cart in front of the horse by assuming that only Aryans can do things and whenever I see things done, no matter where the location, assume that Aryans did it instead of questioning that they have a monopoly on artistic thought.
It's so tiring that they've come to infect every board now with their childish interpretations, Jew accusations and general slur-flinging.

?King Vajiravudh was one of Thailand's most highly renowned artists, writing modern novels, short stories, newspaper articles, poems, plays, and journals. He translated many of English literature and French literature into Thai.
>The king was well-versed in Sanskrit and Hindu literature, including the Ramayana and the Mahabharata epics. He translated many stories from the two epics into Thai and also wrote plays inspired by Hindu literature. He was influenced by Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and hero of the Ramayana epic, to the extent that he systemized and promoted the use of the name "Rama" as the (English) reign names of all Thai kings of the Bangkok (Rattanakosin) era.
>In 1914 King Vajiravudh published in a Thai newspaper an article titled "The Jews of the East" (Thai: ยิวแห่งบูรพาทิศ) where "It combined themes of European anti-Semitism with the fear of the 'Yellow Peril'" and accused Chinese immigrants in Thailand of excessive "racial loyalty and astuteness in financial matters."

The Philippines is one of the few places where literature pushed forward revolution, so Noli Me Tangere is a legitimately important historical work, not quite so much El Filibusterismo but it's there. As well the Philippines has a pre-Modern epic under its belt in Ibong Adarna. There are also a few worthwhile poets IIRC.

Spain has a habit of leaving some kind of decent culture behind its colonial wake, but sadly, America colonized the Philippines afterwards and nothing of worth has come out of the country since that I can think of.

Well, I'm Assyrian and while some Assyrians (usually the younger ones) don't consider themselves white (although I do) they don't generally fall for the oppressed PoC identity thing and would hate nothing more than to be associated with Arabs or Islam. They see themselves more akin to Southern Europeans or people like Armenians and Maronites.
Tbh, the Assyrian history after we became Christian is the history of the Syriac church. There is almost no national identity that wasn't drawn from us being a Christian people surrounded by Muslims. So, in the way of literature, I would suggest learning about the history of the Syriac Orthodox Church or the Assyrian Church of the East. There are countless theologians, poets, and philosophers who went unnoticed amongst Christianity as they wrote in Syriac instead of Greek or Arabic.
Lucian of Samosata is a pretty well known Syriac writer, just off the top of my head, although I think he was a pagan and was pretty Hellenised (most Assyrians of note at that time were Hellenised)

In practice, Nestorianism is fairly similar to Oriental Orthodoxy. The separation of the Nestorian church from the Chalcedonian church was mostly due to Christians within the Persian empire having to distance themselves from Rome.
Plus, Nestorianism was mainly isolated to Mesopotamia. The Levant, Anatolia, and Egypt were pretty firmly Catholic and Orthodox.

All the people from these three regions (basically all Caucasians) share a common ancestry of these three peoples.
