No, if I recall correctly. It focuses on Bateman's mind which doesn't even give a shit about his job, rarely talks about economics or what he does at the company. Of course you will enjoy it a lot more and get a better understanding of the book if you know the economic context and the yuppie culture.

Yes, don't even consider reading this unless you've read Mankiw and Friedman. To grasp everything in this book better though you might want to read some Sowell aswell. Good luck.
