Has anyone on /lit/ read "The Princess of Cleaves" by Nathaniel Lee? I'm reading it for a class, and, since I must read the original text, am having a difficult time grasping even the basic plot of it. Any and all suggestions/synopses are apprecaited. Pic related.

Wasn't that book written by Madame de La Fayette?

This is a play, based off of the character from the novel. I can't find ANYTHING online regarding this play.

I'm not an idiot. I checked 6 different literary databases through my university. I got one article about a theme within the play. I need a synopsis or very basic plot description.

I say you're full of shit. Or else you have some sort of mental defect.
How come you're reading something and you're not understanding it?

Just pay more attention or read the original novel if you can't follow the play's plot.
If the play is based on the novel, they shouldn't be so different. Here's your synopsis:

It's basically an adaptation of the French novel, so if you look at the plot of that, you're at least halfway there.

The changes that are made are to allude to Restoration English culture, so if you know anything about (like) the Earl of Rochester, then you should be fine.

If you know nothing about the Earl of Rochester, then at least watch the Johnny Depp movie.
