Yes. Read all of Proust together (apart, but he remained a topic of discussion for about 2 mos.). After a good start the relationship went South quickly after about a year-and-a-half. Not American but isn't having the confederate flag basically just some regional patriotism/nationalism? Hence why blacks and the like have it, too. It's hardly right-wing or extremist. It seems fairly default, 'love of one's own'. Also, even if she were a 'right-wing extremist' she seems intelligent and well-read which is more than 99.99% of people regardless of any label you slap on them or political misgivings. Which means she won't be dumb or autistic about these things so you don't have to worry.
