Where do I find friends like you in real life? Most of my free time is spent on this board (and some others) because I can't find my place irl.
I'm mostly surrounded by braindead codemonkeys which I find physically repulsive.

It's the sad truth that the only people now interested in lit are basically art hoes or academics. I would highly recomend going into the art hoe scene, the people are unirocinally much more fun than most social groups even though their interest in lit is relatively surface level. Reading is by nature pretentious now that there is TV, movies and shit that is easier and more 'fun', so the trick is to find people that are okay with being pretentious and in fact aim to be. So the whole hipster arty group will always be trying to find somethign to read tht's more indie, and academics will always be trying to seem more intelligent. So get into those.

Actually smart people are in the sciences and engineering. They learn about arts in their free time. Most of the people who are entirely dedicated to unprofitable arts and social studies fields are ideologues. Because only ideology can make one give up on basic self-preservation. For lack of jobs in their fields they eventually slide into "journalism" and professional activism. Which is also the reason why these job fields are dominated by useless ideologues.

you don't want real life friends who are interested in japanese motor engine forums and things like classic literature. you'll end up questioning whether or not you want to pursue small time relationships. the reason you don't see them around anywhere other than here is because they don't leave their house, they don't post on social media, and they don't make it apparent they have down syndrome (50% down syndrome 50% narcissistic personality disorder). find a full time job, talk to co-workers who don't have dense personalities and try to reach out to them if you think you might get along. if they don't "get" artsy shit, challenge yourself to not get masturbatory about it and maybe recommend something you think they'd like. maybe read it along with each other if you feel homo enough. not everyone is kneeling down and sucking off the nu wave.
its easy to get caught up in personality mirroring if you rely too much on friends. stay true to yourself faggot being lonely isnt too terrible.

Unfortunately this isn't true. I've been an engineer for about a decade now and my colleagues prefer to spend their free time playing video games and TV. They aren't the least bit interested in the arts, unless you're including comics and pornography. Those ideological journalists, despite all their flaws, are much more cultured and interesting to talk to.

Large cities near the universities. College towns. Go to the places you would like to go, like bookstores. If you cant go to the above, go to where you like to go, like bookstores, near you and hope for the best. You should take more risks and try reaching out online if you cant go to large cities or college towns

Getting a job that forces you to deal with a lot of people might also be good, like a coffee shop or bookstore. Then you just have to take the risk to talk to an interesting customer on a personal level and see what happens
