Okay so ive NEVER read a book completly thru in my entire life. I'm 17. I hate reading. I love the movie twilight and had no interest in reading the book. But I decided to read one page tonight and I got so carried away and into the book that i ended up on chapter 4 and it's 3am!!!! I had to fource myself to stop reading because I have school tomorrow!!! Buuuttt I'm prolly not gonna get any sleep anyways cuz I wanna finish the book sooo should I stay up and read it? Or at LEAST try to go to sleep and risk wasting good reading time?!!!?!! WOW LISTEN TO ME!!!!? WHAT'S GOTTEN INTO ME!!!? I don't read! Wowwww!!!! I like it! ;)

I just feel superior to failed abortions. Feels good man.

There's a chance it could kickstart an interest in reading

Complain all you like about Harry Potter but it helped get quite a few children into reading books.

/lit/ was once one of the best boards. Then summer and Stagolee happened.

I don't get how people are still bitching about summer. We're firmly into the school year at this point.

I know it's not and that makes that much worse. Eventually /lit/ will become something like /tv/ and we'll just accept it.

I've been on /lit/ from may, tbh I kinda enjoyed summer, more fun was had, and on this slow board there's enough space to mix the fun of 4chan, the sillyness with the serious book discussion.

Because the American school system is highly effective at thoroughly beating out any interest in literature that children might have?

I was lucky. I never as a child got told no in a bookstore, and it was before the schools had a chance to turn me off from reading forever, so I found early that books can be enjoyable.

I'm sorry, the answer I was looking for was:

because Harry Potter isn't encouraging children to read.
