The only way to save the Canon at this point is to liquidate the Academy. Institutions of "higher education" have become the foremost destructors of knowledge, truth, and wisdom in the world.

I formed my opinion in my second year of university about a decade before the pronoun law when I decided not to try to become a professor. I do like Peterson, though I haven't heard him say anything about academia that I didn't already know.

No, it's to write a masterpiece that would match the canon

>> No.11588930

Assuming it's even true that some writers are objectively superior to others by some or other category, the canon is a function of society. If the entire society rejects the canon works as canonical, what possible defense do you have besides my aesthetics> your aesthetics? It is no longer a debate about the canon but aesthetics.

Not really. My GPA was 4.0. I just knew if I had to spend the rest of my life in an English department listening to people talk about nothing but identity politics and waiting for the struggle sessions to finally start I'd go crazy. The idea that a professor could actually take a stand against the Cathedral never crossed my mind as a possibility, because in my four years at university I'd never heard a professor ever utter so much as a syllable that wasn't perfectly tailored to the Narrative, and I'd seen students run out of the major on a rail just for bringing up Christianity in a non-critical tone once in class. The thought that someone could actually stand up to those people was inconceivable to me. I thought they had the institution perfectly locked in a stranglehold. If the Peterson thing had happened in the 2000s I might have gone to grad school. I just didn't have anyone who I wanted to be anything like. I wish things had been different.

The principles are all pretty obvious. There’s a reason the greatest writers, taken as a whole, agree that x is good and y isn’t.
The fact that a bunch of academe hacks can’t make uo their minds is nothing to the purpose. The fact is that qualify was considered objective at a time when many children knew more than our “professors.”

the reason to save the canon is so that other individuals (should they choose) be enlightened with the wisdom of the elders and attain as thanks for their elevated reflections, a legacy. To destroy or dilute the canon is to effectively misinform the public about "the heights of reflection".
The reason academia and marketers etc. want the canon to dissipate is so that they can make money of your mistakes (and the next generation's mistakes.)
Witholding information is a form of power. These people literally survive on lies, so it's an obvious assertion that you need to be distracted (i.e. pop culture's instant gratification meets scarcity seduction meets an audience hooked on heroin vs. your dad's experience (who wins etc).

But I am an academic! I go to my local community college. I'm taking two classes this semester, not too many cause I also work at starbucks. Sociology and English, they're pretty tough though, but it's not too bad cause I pay a kid money to write stuff when I don't want to because sometimes I wanna go hang out and don't have time to do my work

Not intentionally. I tried to kept my views to myself as much as possible. I slipped up a few times, of course, and the reaction was what you'd expect (mob anger, shunning, contempt, etc), but my infractions weren't serious enough that I was expelled or forced to drop out. I did end up having to switch majors, though. I saw other students catch much, much worse.

Unironically this. Academia is a diseased tree that's spreading blight to everything around it. It needs to be cut down and replanted before it destroys everything.
