Is there any good prose out there that uses occultism aesthetics in a smart way?
No cheap horror or certified mystic loones, but building it's own or creatively using existing mythology to strengthen the narrative.
Kinda like hard sci-fi but with mysticism

So, there's none?

Most people who write occultism are certified mystic loones to begin with.

true
but the best books featuring occultism are not written by crazies, see >>11567479 >>11567476

Not really, as is pulpy conspiracy fiction like Cecil or Brown.
Eco and Borges seem like a good recs >>11567476 >>11567502

How's the quality of writing in this one? Feels like it's too over-the-top satirical, but if it's a really good prose, it may be worth a shot

Wanted to approach Pynchon for a long time, but where should I start in regards of this subject?

Gustav Meyrink

>> No.11567607

Bram stoker is worth mentioning. Despite being a hermeticist, he seemed like a pretty normal dude. Most worthwhile writers are loons in some way, so why disqualify the ones most qualified to weave it into a story?

Disclaimer: I have not read Dracula and I suspect it might be cheap horror.

I thinks it´s well written, the language is vivid and keeps you interested. I couldn´t put the books down unless I had to when I was reading them so I think it´s really worth reading.

Can any lads tell me what the point of mysticism/occultism actually is? I find it interesting but pointless. There are no ways to summon whatever creature and magic doesn't exist. "Higher planes" are probably just an illusion and only drugs take you there temporarily. Any "real" stuff is probably so hard to find and harder to teach you won't come across it unless you're meant to be.
