Awful writing, awful world, awful characters. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. You're wasting your time.

Well written except in spots where Erickson is clearly cutting corners 4 deadline. Lot of it is totally bizarre propaganda, but also a sort of smart anti-hegelian saga about multiculti imperialism. Has a sheer humanity that GoT totally lacks. Affirms that epic fantasy is aesthetically superior to the vast majority of tv and all comics/cartoons/anime/manga. Overall 5/5 stars highly recommended.

Lether is a teardown of Ayn Rand's utopia

>> No.11559277

It's based as fuck, the highest of all high fantasy and mythology
Unfortunately most people don't make it past the first book and it doesn't really find it's stride until book three, and doesn't even introduce extremely important characters until book four
I get the impression that Erikson didnt start taking himself seriously until book four but he got really lucky with three

Anybody read any of Esslemont's Malazan books?
I just finished House of Chains and I am gonna start this bad boy before getting into Midnight Tides, I hear Esslemont is a much better writer than Erikson. Sort of an apprentice surpasses the master type of scenario.
Anyway, I'm stoked to start it. Dancer is probably my favorite character so far from the main series, besides Karsa of course.

A female soldier getting raped literally triggers the biggest plot point in the entire book 3. Please at least pretend you have read books before commenting on them

If none of the full plate-wearing women soldiers get raped in the first book then it's a nonsense book and you can take your libshit elsewhere and defend it there. Stupid fucking frogposter.

>This level of desperation
Malazan is about the level of capeshit and it's disgustingly bad. Erikson, just like Bakker, is a retard that blames people and calls them stupid for not understanding his high school tier writing. No matter what faults GRRM has, he's still a hundred times better. He is, for one, a real fucking writer.

Ya youre right, I just read the first 30 pages and its a great change of pace from Eriskon. The characters and the setting feel very alive and relevant and I dare say comfy, whereas Erikson is really grimdark and dusty. I mean dont get me wrong I wouldnt have already read 4 of Eriksoms tomes if I didnt like it a lot, but this Esslemont jam is a MUCH needed change of pace
