How long do you usually need for a lets say 300-400 page book?

A week. Two if im not into it.

>> No.11552020

If I like it, an afternoon.

Depends on the book. Fastest has been one day. Usually about a week.

>> No.11552037

>>11552018
depends on how it's written

>some YA novel
1 day or so

>some contemporary thriller/mystery
1-2 days

>simple but good writing like Japanese translations, Romatic-era English, McCarthy, etc
4-7 days

>verbose and dense like the Russians (Dosto, Gogol, Tolstoy, Goncharov, etc)
7-14 days

>Faulkner, Joyce, Woolfe, etc
10-20 days

>> No.11552048

>>11552018
i can manage 100 pages a day if im into it. If it is a dense theoretical book probably 50 pages each day.

Good post anon, this is close to the truth. You could even add or Subtract numbers by adding new axioms. I.E; if the book is not written in your mother lounge, add 1 day. If you are highly educated, subtract 1 day, if you’re not very conscientious, add 1 day, etc…

Depends entirely on how many books I'm reading at the same time.

I tend to read 20-50 pages a day, otherwise it's just too much to take in and I forget much of what I've read. It's not a race.

Months probably. That's mostly for really wordy, meandering prose (Russians, old philosopy translations, except for Eastern philosophy and Norse sagas, as a general rule, the older it is, the longer it takes to read). Fastest I've ever done it was one day when I was deathly ill and had nothing to do but lay on the couch and read Terry Pratchett
I don't mind being a brainlet in y'all's eyes. This is the true secret to enjoying literature

My dyslexic brother either takes 2 months with a week long break. Or he does it in one sitting.
