>What we’re not seeking or accepting:
>Essays by non-Indigenous writers about the experiences of First Nations Australians
>Essays by cis writers about the experiences of those in the LGBTQI community
I'm a faggot and this makes me want to kill myself. Not out of cuck shame or anything, but because the cynicism of this stupid shit saps all the life out of me. No vigour, no energy... to compete in this leper rat race.

Anyway I'm reading Patrick White's The Twyborn Affair at the moment. First White and I am enjoying it a lot. For some reason I had expected White to be droll, but he is the opposite.

Leg-spinners pose problems much like love,
Requiring commitment, the taking of a chance.
Half-way deludes; the bold advance.

Right back, there’s time to watch
Developments, though perhaps too late.
It’s not spectacular, but can conciliate.

Instinctively romantics move towards,
Preventing complexities by their embrace,
Batsman and lover embarked as overlords.

>romanticisation of their highly primitive culture
Where did I do that? Anyway, you probably think they were entirely hunter-gatherer when they definitely had farms for kangaroo grass and may have invented bread (look up Dark Emu). If you read Henry Reynolds, you'll find that Indigenous people did help the colonisation of Australia. I only know of Kangaroo Island and SA in particular, but they did help many early settlers understand native food, hunting, land, etc. It was nearly impossible to merely bring over farm animals and wheat, at the start.

Regardless, I don't believe in the noble savage, I only mentioned the fact their languages are interesting to linguists. Also, I'm willing to admit they kind of created the barren geography many, many years ago by destroying all the megafauna and recklessly slashing and burning. This is what led to their cultural practices of "respecting land" i.e. understanding balance - however misconstrued that has become to hippies.

They did make genuine contributions to technology. Boomerangs, for example. Unaipon almost made helicopters off of boomerangs (I know Da Vinci had ideas for helicopters too) hence his face on our 50 dollar note.

Does anyone else hate that dumb fucking cunt Peter Carey? Never written a good book in his entire sad fucking life, despite the knob-solving they constantly give him in literary circles for being the one Aussie to write milquetoast middlebrow rubbish instead of playing footy and smashing birds like a normal person in this country. Oscar and Lucinda is the most tired, uninspiring dreck I’ve ever had the misfortune of slogging through, and the fact that The True History of the Kelly Gang is taught as part of school curriculum is an indictment of the highest order on the direction this country is heading. Fuck Peter Carey. If I saw his smug fucking cunt face i’d bash it in with a fucking wrench

I mean I’m australian and I read. In terms of authors we don’t have many good ones (a lot of mediocre to above average ones though, I.e Craig Silvey). However Banjo Pattersons poetry, along with the journals and reports of journalists who accompanied our soldiers to war are quite good, and definitely worth some time if you like folk poetry or some good journalism.

Australians in general don't like to read. Our culture is more experiential and practically-minded, so it's encouraged that we do something rather than read. Generally, Australians read only when they absolutely have to, unless it's a hobby (which is rare).
