why cant you write good prose my man? Why dont you give just a little bit of a fuck about the aesthetics of your work? Its not all about muh worldbuilding and plot, the way a story is told matters, language and artistry in writing MATTER, finding the BEST way to say something is the perfect ideal. >harem book has harem on the title
Is this a good way of discarding shitty books? It strikes me as a particularly bad strategy of selling a pile of turd.
>"i'll just write whatever meaningless vomit and put some women in it. also, gotta tell them readers there's women in it or else they won't know to buy it"
I feel fantasy has a vast space to explore harem as theme, since you can have pretty much any cultural type in it and monogamist culture is not a global truth, but when you advertise it like that it's just to cover a weak low effort plot. Not that it matters for a pulp book anyway, since the readers expect that and it's probably what they want anyway.

What are some good fantasy that have harems, if any? I see a lot of science fiction exploring morality and taboo, but rarely any fantasy do the same. Which is a little ironic, since science fiction tends to extrapolate from our reality and tries to predict what'll come, so you'd guess our morals would be a little different, but still somewhat closely related. While fantasy, being completely separate from our reality, tends to loom closer to what we perceive as normal, even though it has the possibility of thinking the whole fundamentals of the cultures it describes. The most pathetic attempts that come to mind is sandersom's ungloved hands joke.
>has infinite possibilities of exploring taboos
>chooses the displaying of skin on grappling body part
But what should I've expected from a mormon, anyway? A real debate on customs? ha.

You might try The Guns Above by Robyn Bennis. It's essentially about the crew of a zeppelin in a "secondary world" (or whatever the fuck they call "it's like earth but fantastic" stuff) that's having it's WWI but hasn't perfected internal combustion engines yet so they're stuck with steam turbines. Man characters are the usual stereotypes from military science fiction: tough woman who's got her first command and is out to prove herself, and a minor nobleman/fop who makes his living sponging off older women and gets sent to spy on the captain because her commanders want her to fail. So like I said, very typical military fiction story.

As a machinist with a interest in history and aeronautics the airships are "plausible enough" instead of the usual "lmao it flies because tesla is sooo coool do you read The Oatmeal too?!" steampunk bullshit. The German army used plywood airships later in WWI due to their Navy having priority for the more water-resistant doped cloth ones, by the late 1800s steam turbines small enough to power small boats existed, and steam powered heavier than air aircraft were routinely experimented with up until the 30s.

Why the fuck would Kujen allow attaching Jedao to Cheris, knowing full well her aptitude for math and that this would make Jedao not need Kujen anymore. >I have known her longer, my smile said. True, you have been inside the circle of her arms, tasted her mouth, felt the warmth of her, and that is something I have never had. But there is a part of her that is only for me. You cannot touch it, no matter how hard you might try. And after she has left you I will still be here, making her laugh. My light shining in her. I will still be here long after she has forgotten your name.
>Denna is a wild thing," I explained. "Like a hind or a summer storm. If a storm blows down your house, or breaks a tree, you don't say the storm was mean. It was cruel. It acted according to its nature and something unfortunately was hurt. The same is true of Denna.
>Each woman is like an instrument, waiting to be learned, loved, and finely played, to have at last her own true music made. Some might take offense at this way of seeing things, not understanding how a trouper views his music. They might think I degrade women. They might consider me callous, or boorish, or crude. Not that anon but you do understand that characters play a huge role in getting readers interested in the novel in the first place. Doubly so for fantasy, which is a horribly abused dead horse.
Without characters what else is there to grab your attention?
Not a lot of people are interested in autistically detailed descriptions of magic system, cosmology or worldbuilding.

Nynaeve is one of the best characters in the series, it's just hard for new readers to appreciate her especially early in the story. You can be assured at least that the story never spends that long away from Rand as a PoV ever again. The same unfortunately cannot be said of Matt and Perrin. Perrin is totally absent from one of the later books and Matt is absent for long stretches at a time as well. Matt though single handedly saves book 9 from being a waste of time, he's brilliant.

The MC spends all book being a boss despite everyone hating him and saving this girl's ass, then she just leaves to fuck around some more, in the meantime another hot girl from his school has completely fallen for him, but instead of either fighting for the one she likes or going for the one that likes him he just goes on with this "It's ok if she cucks me cause when I become someone important and she ends her whoring days she will come back to me" speech.

Honestly it is not too bad, I read the first book and while the story is interesting you will basically come to realize soon enough that the protagonist is pretty much perfect, everything shitty that could happen to a person happens to him, and everyone that is against him is an asshole, yet he remains the good natured angel he has always been, he excels at everything he tries and every time an antagonist gets an upper-hand on him it is just a setup to an even greater victory for him some chapters later in the book.
I enjoyed the book enough to be able to ignore those obvious faults but that cuckpraising ending really killed any chance I had of reading the next one. see >>11537705

15 years ago i have read Mote in Gods Eye translated to my native language. It was okay, but didnt memorize the authors or the translated title. Couple years pass, since i like sci-fi a friend showed me Halo, he told me it was based on a book. Found out later that it was just slightly based on it, but still i have read the translated version of Ringworld. It was a good read.
Fast forward to today, I stumbled into Halo and recalled Larry Nivens Ringworld. Looked up what other stuff he did, and found Mote in Gods Eye, i started listening to the audio book. Whilst i was listening i had a funny feeling, and only when i was halfway through the book realized that i have already read this 15 years ago but in my native language. My mind was blown. Have anything like this happened to any of you?

About the book, does the Flood from Halo have any connection to the Moties from the book? I cant stop thinking that the Moties are more Flood like creatures than the primitive humanoids from Ringworld.

Star Wars is a fucking horrible franchise but the original trilogy is fine escapism. Nothing deep or worthy of the praise it gets but it's fine if you divorce it from the zeitgeist that surrounds it. Disney was smart to kill the EU but their own EU is almost as bad as the old EU.

I enjoyed ready player one's book, but the movie was abysmal. I really thought the visual medium would have translated that book better, but stealburg had to fuck it up with cliches and "family". Wtf was with the "i'm 11", "never give out your name, but here is mine", and the cheesy quests?

I am giving up movies entirely. I'm sure mortal engines will also get the fucked up treatment. Fuck people fucking up enjoyable books. Same shit happened with Percy Jackson. Is it so hard to make an abridged visual version? Do you think I want to see how you interpreted something?
