Melville has Pierre, The Piazza Tales, The Confidence Man and Billy Budd in his favour even without Moby Dick.

Bronte has one brilliant novel and a handful of good poetry.

Austen, on the other hand, has three absolute masterpieces which are just as good than Bronte's one (Pride and Prejudice and Emma being better). Her influence is far deeper and wider-reaching than Bronte's, as good as Emily and her sisters were.

What. Vergil wrote in Latin, you plebs. Also, Ariosto is good, but there's Leopardi the Titan you forgot. And Manzoni. Two of the best writers to ever touch this earth

He's held in fairly high regard by the "educated" readers etc, but not nearly as much of a meme/icon as Krleža, Gundulić, Matoš and such.
I've personally read only a smattering of his work, which I found enjoyable.

I found him relly enjoyable but some of the older academics don't value him as much because they are pretentious and can't stand that girls moist when you quote Kamov to them.

Tl,dr he is pretty good, only negative side is that he can get a bit angsty at times
