Hofstadter is important to understand some of the history behind the bureaucratic shift towards expert rule that Trump voters revolted against, as well as introducing the notion of a remnant yeoman class and the split between populism and progressivism in the early 20th century, but here you're only scratching the surface. If you want to understand the actual Trump constituency, read Donald Warren's book on the Radical Center and middle american radicals. Burnham is important to understand how the bourgeoisie has been displaced by the managerial class. Sam Francis for how this managerial class has co opted almost every facet of social, political and economic life, and how the middle american radical is their natural foil

I could probably give you a reasonably accurate estimation;

The Russian strategy during the cold war was to stockpile literal, not figurative, mountains worth of weapons and metals and raw materials for the production of, and bartering in attainment of, early 70's era technology. And to produce a nuclear arsenal large enough to deter any country from intervening in it's international and domestic affairs.

The American strategy was very different. America agreed to, and encouraged the adherence to, economically disadvantageous trade agreements with as many countries and nation states as possible as a way to have them be as dependent as possible on the American economy for social and political stability. This worked fantastically well, and made countries like Japan and China fantastically wealthy via the transference of surplus wealth directly to them in exchange for remedial labor at bargain prices. The current political meltdown being experienced across the world simultaneously is a result of America having definitively won the cold war, and having subjugated the Russian military threat through superior armament and superior economic practices which have ensured that any recession or depression which troubles America has tangible consequences for most countries around the globe.

Trump wants to cut ties with these countries immediately. America has nothing to gain from providing welfare in the form of one-way-trade agreements which could be dismantled and the savings invested into domestic products and technology and infrastructure. The Chinese middle class is 100% dependent on American welfare, in this form. The Canadian steel industry is 100% dependent on this type of trading for profitability at the developed level. Hence the immediate legalization of cannabis as a desperate attempt at compensation for the Canadian economy.

Basically, simply, the rest of the world is about to implode and America is severing long standing trade agreements which act as subsidization for the rest of the world.

Social, spiritual and moral stuff:

René Guénon - The Crisis of the Modern World
René Guénon - The Reign of Quantity and Signs of the Times
Julius Evola - Revolt Against the Modern World
Julius Evola - Men Among the Ruins
Charles Upton - The System of Antichrist: Truth & Falsehood in Postmodernism & the New Age

Economical, societal:
T. R. Fehrenbach - Gnomes of Zurich: Inside Story of the Swiss Banks
Dr. David Duke - The Illustrated Protocols Of Zion (Read in conjunction with Evola´s article "The Secret Causes of History & The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion from [MATR] )
G. Edward Griffin - The Creature from Jekyll Island : A Second Look at the Federal Reserve
(Read above books with Guénon´s chapter "Degeneration of Coinage" from [RoQaTSotT].

These come to my mind which could explain the current "situation" geopolitically and culturally .

I highly recommend all of these books and despite "Protocols" being anti-semitic work, Duke´s foreword and Evola´s article should inform the reader that the book is of high interest despite it does not portray any real meetings of some supposed "Elders of Zion"

There are no "better" trading partners. The current state of the world economy is causally tied to the one-way trade agreements made by America as a way to ensure military cooperation if Russia ever decided to launch a preemptive strike of any kind.

America wants to cut these ties because Russia has capitulated economically. There's nothing left they can do, they need to submit. And the recent press conference indicates that this is what Putin has decided he needs to do.

The likely outcome is that Russia will take over remedial labor on the production side of the American economy, leaving the rest of the world to squabble over the scraps which China has hoarded.

This is better:
"The non-living becomes autonomous — and triumphs. Death in life: Hegel had intuited it, Nietzsche described it, Rainer Maria Rilke sang about it, Freud almost institutionalized it (the death instinct), Dada exhibited it as buffoon art, and the “fascists” exalted it: “Long live death.” The U.S. feminist movement has individualized it:

“The male likes death — it excites him sexually and, already dead inside, he wants to die.”[6]

The autonomy of form affects all aspects of life dominated by capital. Knowledge is valid only if it is formalized, if it is emptied of content. Absolute knowledge is tautology realized; it is dead form deployed over all knowledge. Science is its systematization; epistemology is its redundancy.

In the era of its real domination, capital has run away (as the cyberneticians put it), it has escaped.[7] It is no longer controlled by human beings. (Human beings in the form of proletarians might, at least passively, represent a barrier to capital.) It is no longer limited by nature. Some production processes carried out over periods of time lead to clashes with natural barriers: increase in the number of human beings, destruction of nature, pollution. But these barriers cannot be theoretically regarded as barriers which capital cannot supersede. At present there are three possible courses for the capitalist mode of production (in addition to the destruction of humanity — a hypothesis that cannot be ignored):

- complete autonomy of capital: a mechanistic utopia where human beings become simple accessories of an automated system, though still retaining an executive role;

- mutation of the human being, or rather a change of the species: production of a perfectly programmable being which has lost all the characteristics of the species Homo sapiens. This would not require an automatized system, since this perfect human being would be made to do whatever is required;

-generalized lunacy: in the place of human beings, and on the basis of their present limitations, capital realizes everything they desire (normal or abnormal), but human beings cannot find themselves and enjoyment continually lies in the future. The human being is carried off in the run-away of capital, and keeps it going."

I'll simplify it.

America and Russia predicted they were going to enter into nuclear conflict at the drop of a hat, if conditions were right.

Russia stockpiled mountains of weapons and 70s era tech like tractors and cars and work tools. Hence they have bunkers full of ak-47s that have never been shot and mountains of obsolete tanks and jets.

America invested in technological innovation and research and development, and in taking big hits to its economy by agreeing to trade at a deficit with countries like China and most of Europe, and Canada and Mexico.

What this means is that instead of building cars and microwaves and assembling furniture and making bolts and screws here in the US, it's cheaper, because of those deficits, to pay Chinese workers and German workers to do it for us.

This means that countries like china which leaned heavily into becoming reliant on those deficits have boomed heavily over the past 30 years. To the point there's now a legitimate middle class in china. However, this comes at the cost of American interests.

This was well worth it during the cold war, because it meant China had a vested interest in protecting the American economy. Even from military aggression by Russia.

America, however, is at the moment so powerful and wealthy and technologically advanced that not even Russia poses any serious threat anymore. And so, those trade agreements serve no purpose. And America is severing them left and right.

The rest of the world has been preparing for this for a very long time. And now trump is accelerating it to the point where they cant even offer anything in return. Trump doesnt want anything in return.

He wants to sever them immediately.

But what happens when China recuperates and starts producing for its own market instead of Western markets? One of the primary reasons that the United states has any trade deficits whatsoever with Europe is because until a few years ago, america was a net importer of oil. This is set to change rapidly with the invent of fracking of shale into usable oils. Which means america is the only country at the moment capable of isolationist economic policies.

Doubling the labour force halves the value of labour. Requiring a man to be either doubly successful, or a man and woman to work in tandem to support a family.

Will this continue forever? Who knows. But it's not very efficient, and seems to be causing a lot of serious and unfixable problems in society. Womens mental health has dropped off a cliff, and suicide rates among men are skyrocketing. Drug usage has spiked, etc. Etc.

You might as well call modern-day 'Marxists' Gramscists for all they have read of Das Kapital. They are neoliberal lackeys, and truly the stupidest, least thoughtful of all political movements today. Even the alt-right at least recognizes the distinction between class and culture I pointed out above.

I wrote something up but it reveals too much of what I am working on. The major problem is that very few understand the true inner workings of liberalism, so even its critics get caught up within its levers and pulleys.
The following is a response to a neoreactionary/absolutist discussion of the liberal misunderstanding of power and order. I think it reveals something of the true origins of all this madness.

"This is a fundamental misunderstanding of liberalism and the order which holds the modern state together. If liberalism is so poor in regards to stability, cohesion, order, loyalty, and reproduction, then how could it have possibly won the battle on every front? From monarchism to 'absolutism', communism, and fascism, no enemies were left standing. And while this could be seen in a few cases as a mere triumph of population there is no situation in which the state returns to a hierarchical model. Which means that, in this case, the laws of entropy either do not apply or the true source of organising power is unknown (i.e. it is something other than centralising state power and scientific mechanisation).

The greatest proof of this lies within the colonies, for they did not cause a centralisation of governing power or split off into their own entropic form - when they did split it was only to increase instability and further liberalization. Thus America arrives as the purest liberal state, for it killed the father and has no territory upon which the citizen is reminded of this betrayal. The myth is recast as a monument to simple economic rivalry - no violence occurred, only an ascent to true liberty. Unlike his European brothers, who are constantly reminded of what has been lost, the American can be satisfied that what he builds is solely his own. A pure birth of a New World state which allows it to exist in absolute contradiction: as an amalgam of individuals who do not even realise that their nation is an empire. And it is this distance from even recognising their own being, from understanding their own political myth, which gives rise to what de Tocqueville called "the hollowest of political forms." The individual grows monstrous along with the state - he does not care about the monstrosity of the state so long as he appears as its limb within its own sphere of sovereignty. Any other territory of political thought is impossible, because the expanse between sovereign and individual is so great that it cannot even be seen in the material.

A deep order appears in such an isolated landscape, and this is the heart of the true loyalty and power of liberalism. It is loyal without need of a hierarchy, and this speaks to the strength of its idea (again, formalised clearly in the American experiment). True power has no need of worldly institutions, rigid structures, and strict limits of control. There is no need of an Overman, and in fact He signifies the end of such impotent worldly control. Absolutism falls to something truly absolute. This may be why the American ideology seems so capable in its reconciling of an order of Ubermenschen with that of absolute power: it turns over all sites of the Old Regime, even its own, for it never needed them to begin with. America has no seat of power, only its endless undoing. The columns of the Old World are deadened, just like the primeval forests which block its farmland. The American, forever caught between absolute power and the state of nature - a voyageur, but without a kingdom to store his accumulation of wealth. Yet he remains a king throughout this absurd process of castellation and decastellation, no matter if it is in a burger joint, the shovel-ready bulldozing projects, his own home being three-feet from that a of neighbour's, the contracted Walmart growing beneath his shed, or even a skyscraper torn down alongside the entire economic order. The American thinks, yet he is not. And it is in this precise undoing of all laws of being which resides the true source of liberal power.

The liberal individual does not exist in the world, he is not a civilised being. It remains to be seen if he is even human, for he is trapped between the civilisation he has brought to ruins and the state of nature which, in his eyes, was the aggressor in such total war. He does not build nations so much as mourn their loss - a death march, an exodus away from the Old World but without any more land to re-imagine his utopia. He is isolated within his mourning, and yet somehow the corpse of the Old World fights in his place. And this has less to do with overcoming the Gods than it is simple nihilistic endurance of necessity. The catastrophes of civilisation became overwhelming, and its administrators had no choice but to search out a moment of reprieve. Either that, or we have returned to being the mere playthings of the Gods. The latter appears to be most likely, but the technical administrators, still latching onto that which they despise, cannot even imagine Gods of good let alone some greater force.

Even if its triumph is little more than an accident, the liberal idea reveals a form of order which no other humanist system could best. There is also a more horrifying possibility for its opponents: that the reactions to liberalism were nothing more than schisms within its greater apostasy. After all, they each subscribe to the triumvirate of science, material, and industry. And, each in their own way, they only manage to reveal what was already apprehended. As much as they fight they are caught up within the necessities already produced by the liberal idea of power. Transvaluation is little more than playful tinkering if one does not understand contention with the essence.

America is not a country anymore, it's just a conglomerate of enterprises fighting each other over it's wealth, the sooner you learn this the better, you can't have democracy on a country of 300million people, this is why china will eat you alive, almost all people on their gov are engineers who recon from first principles, your gov is filled with law degrees and now that you will become a minority it will get worse, my prediction is that you will turn socialist, and fall just like Venezuela.

China will eat you alive, you have no idea what you're in for.

All this could have been avoided, but white people are to nice, you should have had a soft eugenics program in place since the start, you should have adopted a localist policy with direct democracy once the avg iq is upwards of 110, you should have created a society of entrepreneur warriors, but in the end of the 30's you got sold out.

Read Peter thiel as well.

I've been with my wife for 10 years now. We met in high school, and I got her pregnant. She is and always has been a lazy person and a shit cook. I wouldn't even mind eating shit food if she at least made it on time. But she rarely did.

We'd get into screaming arguments constantly about how lazy and worthless she was. I felt like an asshole for it, but goddamn she was a real piece of work. The only reason I dealt with all this was for the kids, and also because the sex is great.

But one night, I got fed up. Not only did she get drunk, neglect the kids, and made me top Ramen for dinner, but she decided to give me attitude too. She was being real fucking bitchy. So I told my grandparents to keep an eye on the kids and told my wife we were going to go out and have dinner together. I drove maybe 3 blocks to a quiet area (we live in Oregon, it's not hard to find a quiet field) and I got out of the car, went around like I was going to open her door for her and let her out, and I just beat the shit out of her while she was still seatbelted. After a few punches, I asked her if she wanted to go back to her parents. She started screaming and yelling and said yes, so I beat the shit out of her again. Then I asked her what she wanted to do. She finally got smart and said she wanted to go home. So I took her home and dared her to start trouble. I even handed her my cellphone and dialed her mom's number on the drive home. I made her talk to her mom, while daring her to fucking say something.

Before that incident, I had never laid a hand on her. But I had always threatened it. I told her "one of these days, if you don't straighten up, I'm going to lay hands on you."

All my meals have been on time, and she just recently tried to make a meatloaf. It was mediocre, but I was just thrilled that she tried.

Do with this information what you will.

My diary desu

I don't have any serious book reccs off the top of my head but I will toss in my two cents.
The internet is directly responsible for much of the contemporary chaos of politics.
Decentralized global communications has made it impossible for the powers that be to control the narrative, to keep secrets under wraps, and to maintain national unity through media messaging.
In its wake the internet has unleashed a massive disturbance into the public mind, where propaganda intermingles with news mixes with fiction shuffled with hearsay. People see the world they want to see or fear most, and beliefs become more polarized and extreme.
So now we see a generation of opportunistic politicians who know how to capture internet-addled attention, how to incite and draw up the negative emotions it stirs and channel that into their support base, and who see the current global arrangement as stagnant or in decline and want to shake things up.

This isn't the Wild Wild West of the Internet anymore. If anything the Internet is slowly being closed off by filters and algorithms into the bubbles that we do not know about. This bubble that we created for ourselves have made it such that the powers that be have (arguably) more control over the narrative than ever before.

There is a tiny clique running our institutions in its own interests and against our own, lying to us through our media, lobbying our governments, trying to start wars, flooding us with brown people, etc.

Regarding what's been in the air recently I just picked up this book the other day (pic related) and damn it's an awesome read.
It makes me recall what a badass metal country Russia is.
From what I've gathered so far the book basically posits that modern day Russia retains the ethos of the Soviet imperialism but not the content, and has combined it with this this vaguely hypercapitalist yet highly nationalistic system under the direction of Putin and high level government officials. Russia's state is directly supported through a partnership between the nouveau riche business class and Putin's government.
So long as the business oligarchs conduct their affairs in a manner that doesn't interfere with the interests of the state they have the virtual powers of feudal lords to conduct themselves with complete legal immunity and autonomy. Those that don't comply are often ostracized, exiled, have assets seized or frozen, arrested or assassinated.
With "the Russians" in the news again it makes for a timely and revealing read about the cultural, political and ideological maneuverings the Russian state is engaging. Russia's the bear in the room nobody wants to talk about or make sense of.
