LOTR is one of my favorite books. So browsing Reddit that's what I found. What would Tolkien say about this?

He'd be surprised to see that people still take him seriously.

Oh my god, have you posted this to /pol/ yet? Theyll go fucking mental, fuck white genocide!!!

Goddam what's your problem man? It's a great piece of literature!

no wonder Numenoreans died out

He was friends with Auden, so... Who knows?

I bet he'd say those are Black Númenóreans who had been deceived by Sauron and now practice dark sorcery and abominations against Eru whom they resent.

>Christ
Christ loves LOTR, anon.

Dunno, no idea what his opinion was of homosexuality. Tolerant but awkward about it, I'd guess with zero evidence. Probably wouldn't be a fan of all the 'elves are gay' jokes though, so he might see this picture in that context and cluck disapprovingly.

Kind of confused that someone would make a thread about this tbph

I doubt he’d be particularly happy, he was a pretty devout Catholic.

>> No.11490179

Don't know man. The tale of Beren and Luthien is the most pure and beautiful story ever told. I think he would be deeply disgusted and disappointed in our society.

>> No.11490183

>>11490178
Devout but not necessarily conservative. Tolkien was anything but myopic.

>> No.11490225

>>11490183
You’re right that he wasn’t myopic, but I doubt that a devout Catholic, like Tolkien, who refused to say the liturgy in English, would look upon the the gay pride flag favourably.

>> No.11490520

>>11490179
Sure, makes sense. I mean he generally seems to have been pretty conservative for his time, and his time isn't exactly known for open advocacy of gay rights. But I don't really see what's interesting about this. A. Social values have changed over time, B. People who like fiction don't necessarily know or agree with the views of the authors of said fiction. My mind remains unblown.

He was incredibly progressive though. Especially for his time. He was in favor of white genocide. He said he hated straight white men and dreamed of the day that his own kind would "go the way of the hobbits (extinct)" [direct quote from his personal correspondence with some fag from Oxford.]

>> No.11490556

>>11490524
Yuck.
If he were here for a couple days, to see where the path has taken us, then he'd be flying his own pride flag, on his gravestone

PLEASE give us the source for this. Huge if true.

>Aragorn looked sullen, despite the day's festivities. "Arwen, my love, there is something I must confess. There will come a day when my body shall pass, and my people will disperse. On that day, I can only ask you seek out the Haradim, and lay with them as you would lay with me, for it shall surely be their turn to rule. The age of the Dunedain is ending."

What did he mean by this?

What the fuck. No way.

It's /pol/ bait. He was anti racist though and he would hate this place. He was explicitly pro-Semitic, he believed all men should be brothers in God, that no war should be fought, and expressed his happiness that ''inherited privilege'' had been defeated when a member of the aristocracy was not give a university seat or something in favour of a commoner. He would be a SJW in the way that the current Pope is.

>> No.11490596

That kind of goes without saying. The vast majority of people of any note, regardless of political orientation, would hate this site. You'd have to have a real ironic appreciation of stupid pop culture not to.

You are wrong.

Just read his letters. He writes a bunch about theology and his work.

I've never been to /pol/. And I'm not criticizing Tolkien's beliefs. I only know about them because I'm such a fan. My current read is actually his translation of Sir Gawain. Anyway, get a collection of his letters. It's full of SJW stuff.
