I'm not enraged. That would be the wrong response, and only deepen the troubles men and women are facing. I'm more disappointed. Women were given an incredible opportunity, they could have used even a small portion of this opportunity to create meaningful art evoking the female experience. Or even an awakening into this new era.
But instead, what we get is an endless dredging up of the past, as if necessity disappears into the fearful memory of woman. This is also a general fear recurrent in liberalism and its dystopian myths, there is a pathological absolving of the sins against liberalism into the experience of the individual. As if Creation itself resides within the last reserves of life. Survival is, of course, a necessity within a cataclysm, but at what point does it become a value? And should it ever?
The myth takes on a particular character within its feminised form, and although this is created by the internal territory of women which leads to them never really appreciating the male experience, it is nonetheless something we must contend with. It is as if survival is the greatest victory for a woman, but not even in the complete dystopian sense because the outer circle of horror does not even exist for her. Like an unfinished work of art the outlines of the dystopian image are left void, and the vision collapses into her pain in holding an absent child - the world, weary of itself, evacuates itself into her world. The weltschmerz has quite the opposite effect on women because she is incapable of interpreting the frontier within which conflict resides.
This is, again, partly a necessity of the dystopian form, but where the male fears that his society may birth a monster - and thus he will be forced into fighting a two-front war - the female fears that society will collapse into the ruin of her inability to conceive. This is an important consideration, as it may be that men cannot fully comprehend the machinations which lead to an internal cataclysm. As well, given the greater significance of women in pre-Christian times there is little doubt that women possess a way of seeing which men lack - goddesses being the clear territory within which men contend with the world in its feminine form. No doubt then that women are attempting to reconcile with this loss.
Perhaps the greatest image of the intimate necessity of survival is that of the mother cannibalising her newborn child. In Jerusalem this is the desecration of the child, in offering half to oneself and half to the invading forces - driving them away in horror and disgust. In the steppe of Russia it is the consumption of the whole child, scaring no one away, perhaps even inviting them in.

Where man is resigned to calculating against the terror of the future, and his society's defeat within it, woman writes herself out of this void as if all of its horrors are the unraveling of her memory - to which she must never return. Liberalism exists within this chasm, a final space growing in isolation as its citizens are forced to egress against impossible forces. Its necessity resides here, and it is an invisible form, a felt need which seems to only ever be truly grasped by women.
It may be that the conflict of identity is founded within this chasm, and women have been victorious because it resembles the domestic territory to which they are familiar. Or a terrifying possibility, man has resigned himself to the defeat of the future: its mobilised force beyond anything he could even imagine, he has left Eurydice to contend with the underworld on her own. It is in his absolute resignation to weakness that man becomes silent, wounded by his own footsteps as they become the shadow of the underworld.
