The bells are rung to clear demons of the air

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_bell#Exorcism_of_demons

Exorcism of demons
In Christianity, the ringing of church bells was traditionally believed to drive out demons and other unclean spirits. Inscriptions on church bells relating to this purpose of church bells, as well as the purpose of serving as a call to prayer and worship, were customary, for example "the sound of this bell vanquishes tempests, repels demons, and summons men".[3] Some churches have several bells with the justification that "the more bells a church had, the more loudly they rang, and the greater the distance over which they could be heard, the less likely it was that evil forces would trouble the parish."

Tolstoy (all of it). His early stuff refutes theory and rationality as ways of explaining life. His late stuff explains the role of faith in filling this void (especially the Gospels in Brief). Then his final story, Hadji Murad, essentially renounces both but also doesn't by addressing God's silence in a very mature way.

Dostoyevsky's stuff is also excellent.

Both help you to understand the role of the irrational in your life, and how deeply it is connected to the experience of consciousness in faith.

Although as both of them knew - as it's irrational, it's not something you can explain rationally. It's a feeling. You have to feel your way there, not think.

>wear female clothing, tight clothing

Traditionally, it was men that wore "fitted" (not "tight") clothing, and females that wore loose clothing.

The popularization of loose (and in particular "baggy") clothing among males was popularized by hip-hop, which in turn took this from gay culture (which itself took the practice from gay prisoners loosening the seams of their clothing as a type of "crossdressing" to indicate to other prisoners that they were homosexuals).

For a board that is dedicated solely to reading and discussing books, you guys are awfully hung up on the same postmodern horseshit (this includes anything under the umbrella of "philosophy" [and yes, that includes "politics"]) and never seem to read anything that can be applied to the real world.

Anything related to advanced physics. Not joking. Also police and FBI reports and the like. Hyperspace therum is probably the strongest argument for a God, and crime statistics are probably the strongest argument for Christians specifically having been the "correct" religion.

Christianity is a poorly thought out system. Even the Catholic saint (of students and universities) Thomas Aquinas barely understood his own religion. He also appropriated Greek philosophy into the Christian tradition and its influence continues to this day. See:
