you can't take answers from anglos seriously. They say its untranslatable yet they don't know any languages to even know what a translation of ulysses would be like. Everything written in english is untranslatable, all the other languages in the planet are translated just fine to english, thats the reasoning.

If you get a decent translation, yes, it is worth it. I did read a translation out of curiosity and was able to enjoy it thorougly, just have to make sure its a good translation. Some translators butcher the book, take away all the humor, all the nastiness, all the bad words, which are a huge part of ulysses so it becames incredibly dull and boring. Do your research about the translations to your language, if its rated as good, it is definitely worth it.
As good as in english? no way, but reading a good translation of it is way better than missing out on it completely. Not to mention if you want to re-read it in english later on, you'll have a solid base of the work and will be much easier and more enjoyable.

Srsly tho. I got up to... shit, whatever the episode right before Circe and just put Ulysses on indefinite pause. I used the New Bloomsday Book, Annotations to Ulysses, fuck, even wiki summaries, and I felt like such a fuckin brainlet. It just wasn't fun to have to figure out the goddamn plot for every page.
