BROKE: What’s Finnegans Wake?
JOKE: Spouting your ignorant opinion everywhere that Finnegans Wake is “just nonsense.” I saw someone on here try to claim that people were just “reading into” the first thunderword, as if the references to various words for thunder weren’t what Joyce intended and the whole situation was like potheads tying Dark Side of the Moon to the Wizard of Oz.
WOKE: Recognizing that though Finnegans Wake isn’t nonsense, you can do better things with your time than spend your whole life deciphering all the little riddles, puzzles, references, puns. Like read something actually moving and deep.
EXTRA WOKE: But Finnegans Wake is beautiful because it’s like a big love letter to humanity, Joyce throwing our entire history and stirring it into one big Irish stew
EXTRA EXTRA WOKE: But you might as well just read a long list of historic names and places or something, he didn’t do anything with it or tie it all together, he just threw it in there, the cleverness is impressive and staggering at times but cleverness can only be so beautiful and there are more beautiful things out there
