>>13680>are milions of absolute trash books as wellofc and they should be burned just like 99% of film>The good movies are better than good books, because they stimulate more senses.Have you never read a good book? If you find a book that speaks to you so perfectly you will have so many more thoughts and feel many more emotions than the best movie can possibly cause you to have. While movies like music can often be stimulating reading a book for hours and days has so many characters you don't simply 'get attached to' but explore and practically witness their shifts. Themes and sympolism that often times only after finishing the book leave you in awe of the excelence in the authors intent of including this in his work are too often left unexplored in film or their relevence not brought out because of how limited film is in describing inportance but showing it over and over again. Also feelings that you have failed to understand yourself can be perfectly conveyed through the authors words and will be more resonating than any frame or any emotional face in sequence or not. >a good story and/or ideasYeah sure some movies have great story lines and sometimes an indepth plot but there is no plot or story that could not more clearly and vividly be explained and told than when written in a book. Picture and sound is limited. I have a feelig you just have never found a book yet that profoundly spoke to you in a way that you learned you to appreciate literature. You know like 95% of kids in Highschool who are only forced to read a book and even if they ended up not hating it, still just didn't get why you would waste 'free time' reading it when there is a film of the exact same story compressed in 120 minutes and takes less effort.

>>16372> can be wrong, sure, but it's not a fucking lie.Fucking semantics. This is the kind of shit that ruins any discussion. Equality as a meme began for butthurt middle class to fight Aristocrats who had all of the privileges and wealth. Because Aristocrats deserved their privileges by the right of birth. In some cases laws could apply differently to them. We can argue that alot of those Aristocrats didin't deserve their privileges, but that's not the argument liberals put forth. The further the science works on genetics, we find that traditional view, which has accumulated intuitively over milleniums shows that people are very different and a lot of it is inherited. This vindicates the idea of hereditary Aristocracy and classes. They shouldn't be static, because specific genetics of individual can deteriorate over time, but Aristocracy actually makes sense. > in reality you are the entire universe> Solipsism. I believe that reality exists besides me.>Tradition, as a concept We're not doing more of these word games. A specific European Christian tradition is at least 1000 years old. It appears that it adopted a lot of local traditions and some of it (including egalitarianism) could go back to actual Aryans. I really have to finish pic related. Defying tradition is an idea at most 300 years old. Nobody besides liberals ever thought about changing society itself.

The downside is that inevitably your community will turn into a bunch of no fun allowed, tryhard autists like plebbit.Basically, we are enduring and sometimes even encouraging low quality posts and bait like that because it is in line with the nature of 4chan. Disallowing 'stupidity' leads to disallowing edginess, which soon leads to disallowing non-conforming opinions. That is a big flaw in most other communities and the reason most of us keep coming back to this place instead. >>22611"The Art of War" has several interesting concepts for warfare tactics, but doesn't actually have the over-arching advice for life in general that some claim it does. It's a stretch at best. Good read.Haven't read "The Republic.""Brave New World" is OOOOKAY. Disdain for reproduction and excessive focus on pleasurable distractions are endemic to our culture... but I mean... I prefer 1984 as a dystopian novel. Also prefer "The Doors of Perception" so far as Huxley's shit goes.Never read How to Win Friends but if that self help/social interaction shit is your bag, you might try "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" for some (actually pretty helpful/effectual) moralfaggotry, or The 48 Laws of Power for amoral (sometimes effective, sometimes destructive) advice for manipulating people. Don't let yourself be memed to death by 48 if you read it. There are helpful tidbits and almost poppish historical anecdotes referenced within each law, making it a fun read... but don't take it as gospel.A Farewell to Arms is solid but goddamned sad. Very sad. Kinda depressing to think of it.The Old Man and the Sea is remedial English tier. Not saying it's "bad." but it's child's play.Personally, I prefer Steinbeck to Hemingway. Not too shabby anon keep on keeping on.
>>31654>"The Art of War" has several interesting concepts for warfare tactics, but doesn't actually have the over-arching advice for life in general that some claim it does. It's a stretch at best. Good read.I thought it was really fun to try to apply the tactics to more general life situations. I think the game theory in it is pretty applicable to a lot of stuff.

>>31977You're probably in the right now that I give it more consideration. Plus it has historical value. I also dig the fact that he seemed to view war in an overall negative way. Do not fight unless you can win, do not fight their fight, if you're going to do it strike directly at the heart, prolonged war hurts the people and leads to instability of the state, use of spies and deception being indispensable for the quick and less damaging win... encouragement to not destroy more than what is necessary to gain surrender. You're definitely right. >>12212No it isn't. Most major discoveries were inevitable around their time, a lot of the time the same milestone in science occured multiple times in independent locations, and other times it was just a matter of who got there first (e.g. newton and leibniz)Plus, everyone is building on the shoulders of giants
>>12369You're speculating based on this idea that you're already super smart. In sports you need to train to reach elite status, you'd never look at a random individual and say "oh you have great limb length proportions and your starting numbers are very good, you haven't actually beaten any records but it's given you're the best." Likewise, intelligence and proficiency in an academic field is developed over time. It's absurd to think that a random person who has not read the same books as Einsten and has not solved the same problems as him is in fact secretely smarter than him but we'll never know. You can imagine that if a random individual studied physics they could be on his level, but you're making a lot of assumptions based on wishful thinking. Now when we narrow down the talent pool based on people who've actually trained in the field... you're left with actual physics ph.Ds who are working full time in their field whose contributions are easier to measure.
