Because feminism and equality is inherently a good thing, but there are millions of people who believe in philosophies that directly contradict this inherent good, so the words of said philosophers and religious leaders have to be reinterpreted so that they can say that those ancient wise men believed in the same things that modern progressives believe in, because that's much easier than trying to make everyone atheist.
