I was just thinking something similar. A lot of postmodern literature is obsessed with humor. That's not to say that we shouldn't laugh while we read. Pynchon and Derrida have some genuinely funny moments if you are sort of "in on the joke" while you are reading, but I haven't read a postmodern author really embody a higher complexity of writing beside Endo.
