>devil

>forked tongue, cloven hooves, a pitch fork, two horns
What other etymological/archetypal mashups are there like this?

Basically the common visual depiction of the devil alludes to the etymological affinity of the word "devil" with splitting, division and what not. Basically his sin was not pride but to rupture the godhead. The devil is the ignorant "I" which brought this world of painful delusion into being; hence why he is already in the Garden and knows his way around by the time Adam and Eve show up. And those two, another two--adam nothing but dust and the breath of God in his nostrils but Eve another division and therefore the bringer of a fall. What other words have these kind of associations?

That's fine and all except the two words are not etymologically related.

dia- a prefix occurring in loanwords from Greek (diabetes; dialect) and used, in the formation of compound words, to mean “passing through” (diathermy), “thoroughly,” “completely” (diagnosis), **“going apart” (dialysis), and “opposed in moment” (diamagnetism).**

Devil is from "diabolos"

Okay but that still isn't related to the English word "divide" and the use of dia- in that word doesn't refer to division.
>Greek diabolos ‘accuser, slanderer’ (used in the Septuagint to translate Hebrew śāṭān ‘Satan’), from diaballein ‘to slander,’ from dia ‘across’ + ballein ‘to throw.’

You have such a pissant appreciation for language. Dia as in dialectic; as in dialogue, as in 2 in opposition--division is not far from this. To lie and to slander is an act of division where one seperates a falsehood from the truth, a fucking simulacrum poised in the liminal space. Christ, why be so contrarian? You are splitting hairs. The root in front of Divide is Di- how far do you really think Di- is from Dia-?!?!?!

you get that most language is constructed right?

maybe this is poorly taught, but most languages are just inventions of learned people once nation states are established. this is why italians don't speak latin anymore, or why the english don't speak celtic.
