I actually read "her" diary in Dutch, and I can't believe it could possibly have been written by a 13 yo child. I think this shit is all made up. Her technique of story telling and detailed descriptions are often way too sophisticated and it looks like it has been written by a man actually. It was written by some of the Dutch writers active in the period right after the WW2 . OR it went through so much editing that it has nothing to do with the original manuscript. Mock me and call me Anna Frank truther but I do believe in it.

How is it possible for you to mention Mulisch and Grunberg in the same sentence? Grunberg is a whack writer, shitty prose, shitty substance, and besides this has written nothing but drivel for the newspapers.

>>11369526
Nearly everything by W.F. Hermans, "een nagelaten bekentenis" by Marcellus Emants is a very good read - very Dostoevskian. Another writer whose prose is flowy without sounding pretentious is Jan Arends, his short stories are entertaining, sometimes absurdist.

Also, the translations of the Russians (Gogol, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, et al) by the publisher "van Oorschot" are to be recommended as well.

Read "De Mulisch Mythe" and you'll understand why seeing him as pretentious is a skewed way of looking at his attitude towards the media/world. If it wasn't his attitude, could you enlighten me as to where in his books he exemplifies this alleged pretentiousness?

I always felt that he was too busy showing his intellectual background in his books in ways such as referencing a lot of greek mythology and bible stories. Obviously there is nothing wrong with doing these things, especially not if it is helpful for the story or it gives an interesting or new perspective to a story, but I don't enjoy the way Mulisch does it personally.

An other reason for disliking him I've heard is that he seemed to talk about himself more than the average writer, but this is not something I really care about that much.

Also sorry for shitty English, It's obviously not my first language.

Well, it only becomes a problem (or discussion) once you aren't merely casting your personal opinion on his oeuvre, but try to say that he inherently was pretentious and reflected that in his writing. I don't think he did, nor that he was particularly self-infatuated. Nonetheless, I can understand why the near constant reference to history/symbols/mythology, etc, can be tiring at times.

>> No.11386008

>>11385824

sid lukassen's "avondland en identiteit" is pretty nice, just like "democratie en haar media"
not genius/intellectual or anything, but like 7/10 or 8/10, he is a philosopher of history so he does some beaudrillard/hegel/random references inbetween talking about normie practical politics, thats why I like him

>Mair examines the alarming parallel development that has seen Europe’s political elites remodel themselves as a homogeneous professional class, withdrawing into state institutions that offer relative stability in a world of fickle voters. Meanwhile, non-democratic agencies and practices proliferate and gain credibility—not least among them the European Union itself, an organization contributing to the depoliticization of the member states and one whose notorious ‘democratic deficit’ reflects the deliberate intentions of its founders.
