Short answer is I don't.
My alternative career choice is being a gardener. (my only other passion outside of language).
The closer I get to the faculty and the more I learn about how corrupt and stupid the bureaucracy is, the more I learn to hate it. Especially because my field falls under arts and social sciences, and the whole department is so politically charged. Even in fields like linguistics, my uni doesn't really allow people to be apolitical. It's really frustrating because I like to keep politics out of the social sciences as much as possible.

>how you like it
I regret it. It was shit, I don't recommend it. I was blind, but now that I'm out, I see it. If you are interested in arts, you have to dig online furiously and then try to get into expensive atelier courses.

The only thing that I miss are the readings and discussion on education and philosophy. This academic knowledge is a double edged sword. It engulfs people and make them thing they have the truth above anyone else, but on the other hand if put it to correct use and if one is emotionally intelligent enough to handle its practical effects, then it can dramatically upgrade the quality of the work done in the classrooms and ateliers.

Um, no... you're projecting. You haven't listed a single reason, elucidation, or example to support your worldviews. I have requested that you do so several times and you have turned me down every time

So, you're not really telling me about how you see the world. Not only that, but you're also guilty of "not listening" as you've done nothing but insult me and, again, refuse to explain anything!

The Pre-Professional problem is at a lot of other schools too, I think people don't see these elite universities as elite because of the brilliance of their faculty, but because of their access to elite professions. GF goes to Uchicago and the same problem there, best friend at Harvard says the same, Berkeley is like that too. Its kinda sad.

It's everywhere now. It's because of capitalism. Everything gets turned into a hollowed-out puppet appendage for generating money, only superficially resembling what it is actually supposed to be, and what it is still claimed to be so that dipshits will keep thinking they're experiencing real culture.

Universities are warehouses for churning out technocrats, and even worse, for servicing and bribing the technocrat class at large by allowing them to send even their run-off failure dud children to guaranteed technocrat sinecures. So you don't just have to put up with the place replacing bildung with a phony veneer of bildung for business-servitors, you have to put up with them stuffing the fucking classrooms with even their stupider children, because gotta do something with the duds.

The only thing you can do with a worthless dud is "professionalize" it, polish it, so that's what they do here. It's sickening. You can't recognize the few accidental real people left in the sea of hyperprofessionalized rich brats, so you can't even find those people anymore and befriend them, all you can do is wade through a sea of the glassy-eyed unconscious children of overpaid lever-operators as they consume free food and overpriced coffee and wear expensive clothing. At any given moment you're awash in a sea of overfed fucking piece of shit rich people's failure kids simply because they didn't have anything else to do with their time or their lives, and their parents needed a ready escape chute for disposing of all the kids who didn't turn out to be plausible Captains of Industry capable of furthering the family business by investing in investing and paying lawyers to tell them how to hoard money until it's self-sustaining.

I went to a few paper presentations recently and all the sweater-wearing doughy brats all reached out to take free pizza and cookies and I could hear their rich parents dodging taxes with every bite they took, so that they could sit in a classroom and pretend they care or know anything about 19th century ethnomusicology. I fully spaced out as I listened to their synchronized chewing at the middle of a weekday while most of the population is forced to work for a living at debt slavery subsistence. I enjoyed their $400 eyeglasses and the nothingness that came out of their mouths after complementary food went into them. There is nothing good left at any of these places. It is turd polishing, thousands of mathematically perfect cylindrical turds rotating like neutron stars to blind and dazzle you and prevent you from noticing they're just pieces of shit. There is nothing left. It's time for this society to die.

I feel the exact same way, and I used to beat myself up for going to a shitty instate uni on scholarship instead of going to U of M and digging myself a massive debt hole. Then a friend of mine informed me that even the top tier unis are filled with the same weed smoking, corner cutting, casual cheating, meme culture obsessed, "depressed under layers of irony" type students with a glazed over look in their eyes. Professionally, they all care more about landing a good internship, building a resume, making professional connections than actually learning. This is the new generation of yuppie faggots coming out of STEM programs, the ones who have the best padding in their resumes get the best positions. Turd polishing ad nauseam.

The non-quiet floors at my uni library are the equivalent to a highschool cafeteria in terms of conversation topics and decibel levels. This institution is an expensive daycare for 20 year olds.

I'm lucky that I haven't been subjected to it in any particular way yet. However, my teachers all need to sign these agreements declaring that they agree with certain contentious political notions. Particularly regarding transgenderism, sexual identity and gender expression.
On top of that, there's kind of an unspoken rule/culture that centrists and right-wing people don't get hired. I remember once having a conversation with my Spanish professor who was a centrist, and he said he always kept his head down and always avoided anything relating to politics, because he said all his superiors and the vast majority of his colleagues were avid supporters of socialism and didn't make a very supportive environment for dissenting opinions.

Because like the average /lit/ poster, UF students like to jerk themselves over how smart they are when in reality we're a bunch of pseudo intellectuals located in a cesspool, drenched in our own sweat while being afraid to go against the norm out of fear of being perceived as stupid.

In my time at UF I can tell you straight up that our liberal arts and journalism programs are average, our sciences and engineering are great, and our business school is meant for retards who know they should major in something that can get them a job.

Also please entertain me while I describe the type of person each major generally attracted.

>English
Head up ass morons who thought they were intellectuals and were generally insufferable to be around.
>Journalism
Fucking kek, among the most insufferable people here. English majors who use way too much social media and think their opinion matters.
>Poli sci
Mouthbreathing retards from the subarbs who believe they'll be part of the upcoming revolution
>Sociology/Anthropology/the like
White girls in sororities looking for a husband and dumb people who couldn't hack it in any other major(generally minorities) who think they should be taken seriously while in reality their major is a fucking joke. Doomed to the life of a housewife or a "community activist."
>History
Generally the more level headed people here, right behind the econ majors. Still had its fair share of retards, but generally the people viewed things objectively.
>Philosophy

Hey man I'm talking about the majority of UF students. I'm hoping you're not like the rest. And yeah, since we recently hit number 9 in public uni rankings we will never fucking hear the end of it. The school is trying their best to be on par with Michigan, UCLA, and UVA, but it seems to me they're only focusing on STEM, business, and graduation rates. They literally don't give a shit about the humanities, but since it really doesn't make any money no one really cares.

Most people out of Texas aren't familiar with the school, but its more or less the private school you go to if you didn't want to go to UT Austin. I'd say its probably close to UT in quality of professors, but the education is a little better because the classes are smaller. Unfortunately we don't have the brand so our grads don't get recruited as heavily outside of Texas cities/cities in nearby states. Most definitely, you can check out CS50 on edX. I think it's one of the best intro courses out there. That course teaches C, which I feel like wouldn't be used in consulting (I'm assuming since it's data driven you'd be using Python/R). In any case CS is more about the thought process and once you have that down, switching to one of those aforementioned languages should be very easy.

Now I am become bugman, the destroyer of souls. Here in the computer science lab of my third tier commuter school, I have watched the suburban rot of American capitalism poison everything sacred and literary about academic culture. This university should not exist. It is not a university. It is not even a trade school. It is a node on the great tumor of Washington, D.C., a malignant parasite that quietly feeds upon Northern Virginia's economic bloat--its congestion, its corruption, its overpaid government workers and contractors, its skyrocketing immigrant population, its feelgood unfettered liberal consumerism. The Koch brothers recently purchased the economic and law departments. They even renamed the law school. There are Islamic prayer rugs in every other building. My classmates dream of joining the ranks of government contractors like Booz Allen and Lockheed Martin who murder children, destroy the environment, bribe politicians to invade the Middle East, and illegally spy on you as you read this post. Many of them will.

But I am not resisting anymore. I am narcotized. I take my pills. I torrent Netflix original movies. I eat Chipotle. I am learning to code, meaning I too will someday soon become dependent on the region's bloat.

I have joined the Hive. And thereby, I will one day acquire the means to escape it, if it doesn't destroy me first.
