Reading books doesn't make you smart. It makes you a person who reads books. Spending your day at the library doesn't make you smart. It makes you a person who spent your day at the library.

Intelligence, as far as I understand, depends more on your ability to reflect on, understand, and discuss what you consume. Therefore, try to rid yourself of the notion that reading equates to intelligence. It might be a marker for intelligent people, but it's not an end to intelligence.
