I know he's amazing and brilliant in all kinds of ways yadda yadda but I've always personally found Joyce's works boring and extremely stylistically indulgent

There was a time when people like you weren't allowed in places like this. World's gone all to hell.

It's not his best, of course, but it's a fairly important work. Towards the end it gets to be a little long-winded and actually a little bit annoying, but it picks back up again when it starts off the dialogue about aesthetics. The first chapter is what some would call "comfy." Not for everyone.

Ulysses and Dubliners are by far his best work.

Catch-22

Beginning and end were nice. Parts of the middle like the chapters about the cafeteria guy were funny. But it definitely became dull to read in the middle and the part in reference to Crime and Punishment's suffering scenes felt off when most of the book is comedic. It felt like the author suddenly glued in that scene. The work overall could have be shortened by a hundred or so pages.
