I’ve heard Cullen’s book is the most popular and was called “definitive”. Media hype and personal promotion involved makes me skeptical though. Imagine the P&V circlejerk but the guy is a journalist himself who writes for Slate.

My suspicions appear to be vindicated. From what I’m reading Cullen is very keen on his interpretation of the Columbine massacre, which boils down to Harris was a psychopath the end... bullying debunked it had nothing to do with columbine! Although there is quite a large amount of evidence that favours the opposite interpretation. Probably some kind of autistic, moralistic fixation. Bad.

didn't one of them keep a diary? it's been forever but i thought they had a diary which is where a lot of the confusion over why they did it came from (trenchcoats, playing doom, etc) at the time

Read this. It's good but flawed. As >>11310773 stated there are some definite flaws with Cullen's interpretation, particularly his appraisal of Eric as being popular with women.
I would say a good 85% of the book is solid, 10% questionable, 5% completely incorrect, but what's good is well researched and compellingly presented.

Overall recommended.

There's a "prequel book" that pretty much inspired the phenomenon, one that King pulled out of print after Sandy Hook.

Not really an ideology but Dylan's own mother wrote a book talking about Dylan's upbringing and events from Dylan's home life leading up to the shooting. It has a lot of interesting bits about Dylan.
