based Demian readers. Actually, I consider Demian the worst oh his work, but it's still better than the average book.

It's just juvenile literature, equiparable to YA fiction of our time.

They don't know what they are talking about, and neither me. Hesse wrote Steppenwolf when he was like 50. Also during his last years of living, he stated that even until that day, young and old people would send him letters about how much they feel related to the book, etc. However, nobody who approached him fully understood his book.

Nothing hurt me. I just recognize that the message Demian conveys isn't subtle at all.

Hesse is the German Murakami and all his books are just trite hamfisted philosophy lessons. He should only be read in your teenage years.

I read Demian a couple years ago and it was definitely too late for me. Pushed Steppenwolf down my backlog a fair bit.

>He should only be read in your teenage years.

You got Hesse's ideas wrong. One of the main topics Heese tells in his stories is about the never-ending growth of the human mind. You'll never reach a point of your life where you know everything, and Hesse makes sure to remind all of his readers about this.

Last month my grandfather borrowed my copy of Narcissus and Goldmund. Know he keeps telling me how amazed he is for the way Hesse depict nature and human experiences. So, everyone is able to learn from his books, the age doesn't matter.

I don't read books to be honest, but just from the tone of your post and wikipedia summaries of the work, I'm guessing you're reading this particular book wrong and not extracting deeper meaning. Probably because you're a pseud.

These pseuds don't even bother to read the wikipedia. They just follow the meme lmao
