They are legitimately better than most popular fantasy series, including ASOIAF and Wheel of Time.

People who hate the Inheritance Cycle are just pretentious blowhards.

Why do people seem to hate the Inheritance Cycle so much?
Sure the dwarfs and elves are taken straight out of Tolkien but overall it was enjoyable.

Because the magic doesn't make sense and instead of wiping it all on a clean slate from the first book's setup, retard Paolini kept trying to improve on it as he went, making "wards" and "shield" spells (which essentially make Eragon retarded OP), and he also tried to incorporate scientific logic into his magical rules, which was just insulting and stupid. Read his recent AMA. It's just a fuckfest of retcon bullshit

I genuinely hate that ASOIAF is considered the gold standard of fantasy. It's a shitty retelling of the war of the roses but with fantasy elements shoehorned in so nerds will read it.

>> No.11294634

I remember liking it in elementary school, but even I could see how stupid the magic system was getting as the series went on like how you could drain energy from other organisms, which basically meant if you were in a forest you'd have essentially limitless energy.
Also the idea that the cost of a spell is draining on you in the sense that it takes the energy as if you had done it doesn't make sense because that'd mean magic strength is determined solely by physical strength

Fuck you that was my favorite part.
What on earth does that "insult"? Eragon IS for teenagers straight off of reading Harry Potter but it's decemt teenager shit nonetheless and his magic system was perfect. Really stimulated my magitech imagination. Paolini describes magical radiation as a left over of the magic-nukes without ever using the word "radiation". That was top notch.

>the magic system was perfect

you must be fucking high or retarded. If the magic rules in Eragon stimulated your imagination and satisfied you do NOT read an actual fantasy novel with rock-solid rules or your head might fucking explode.

the magic rules in eragon are fucking awful

>hurrdurr wordless magic is entirely based on intent
>hurrdurr 150 year old king doesn't bother to protect himself from it literally just by speaking
>hurrdurr leads to his downfall

want more?

>hurrdurr brom dies to a knife wound
>hurrdurr ancient rider with infinite knowledge of magic who had so much energy stored in his ring he could've literally thrown a mountain

also, if magic is based on intent, how the fuck was Elva a thing? Eragon's intentions were good, he just misspoke the language (which was defined as nothing more than a conduit for said intent (magic))

fucking sit dude. teen fantasy or not, it still needs to be fucking coherent

>> No.11298072

>>11297339
Magic is LOCKED to the language when that language is used to cast it. That was the whole point of the ancient elves binding all magic to the language.
Then if an adept wordlessly casts magic directly with thought, intent becomes the standard. Here magic returns to it's primordial pre-binding nature.
Do you even remember the book? Was this your impression while reading it? You read it badly.

Here, pulled straight from the wiki:
>During this battle, a Dragon Rider named Thuviel performed a spell on himself, apparently as a last-ditch attempt to destroy the attackers, in which he converted every atom in his body into pure energy, most likely by the process of nuclear fission. The spell killed Thuviel and resulted in a blast of cataclysmic proportions, decimating the island but failing to kill Galbatorix and all but one of the Forsworn, who shielded themselves. The Forsworn Glaerun and his Dragon were both killed, as were many Riders and Dragons, both wild and bonded. The explosion also resulted in the entire island being contaminated with an "invisible poison", which is probably radiation, given the nature of the effects caused by it, such as skin lesions. Glaedr, however, did not know this word to describe it (the concept being beyond the understanding of the science of the time) and so simply stated it to be an "invisible poison."
