Being perfectly frank, its kind of fucking gay and one of the better examples of why Idealism was abandoned. I like much of it and he is just expanding on plato’s ideas with Hermetic undertones but its really difficult to take seriously if you understand how physical systems and evolution work

I like his philosophy a lot. I think his doctrine of the Intellect is one of the most original things I have read in ancient philosophy. There has been some debate on whether he absorbed some indian doctrine through his master Ammonius, because some of his ideas do not sound like Greek philosophy - or western philosophy - at all. The Enneads are worth reading, but some of them are boring, other very difficult. There are passages that are absolutely unforgettable though, and quotations you'll find yourself thinking about more and more.
If you are not sure whether you should read him, I'd suggest you take a look on Pierre Hadot's book on him "Plotinus and the Simplicity of Vision". It is not a perfect book by any means, but it is well written, short and can give you an idea of the flavor and pace of Plotinus' philosophy.
