This is what happens when a playwright decides to immitate James Joyce.

Where's that from?

That playwright is Beckett. You should read Waiting For Godot and you might start to understand that Beckett is parodying philosophers, industrialization, modernization, and the western belief at the time that humanity can achieve some sort of progress. Among other things. He's not trying to "imitate James Joyce" you twit. The point is its supposed to be nonsense. It's like a big vomit of human history. Note the quaquaqua.

It would be nonsense whether intended or not, that is the thing about fiction and much of writing. That Beckett wants to do nothing more than draw our attention to this instead of aspiring to raise us out of this betrays his status as an inferior degenerate.

Art that does not conceal its status as art is the worst art, if it is art at all.

Read the conspiracy of art' by Jean Baudrillard.

Portnoy's Complaint is a fantastic novel-length monologue and would probably serve as fantastic inspiration.

Beckett doesn't conceal the status of his art? Do you know ANYTHING about Beckett? He had a play that was basically had a whole bunch of trash on stage and played the sound of a birth cry then breathing and that was it. Most people at the time hardly considered it art. If you tried to read "meaning" into Beckett's plays he'd probably disagree with you. He was a nihilist, so if he had a point at all, it would be you can't shut off your fucking brain and you just live everyday, and there's no point to it all.

I have the opposite opinion. I think "art" that tries to "raise us out of this" is charade, or has some sort of motive or didactic message or overbearing theme--that's the stuff you should be concerned about. Most of that is just some sort of preaching or philosophical dogma masquerading as fiction masquerading as truth.

>mfw Brownbear, TyBrax, Mogwai, Isabelle Hubcap, Truman Capote, Quentin and various other Tripfags who don't have anything to say can't provoke interesting intellectual discussion like I can

>Most people at the time hardly considered it art.
And they were right

>nihilism
to be overcome, if Beckett did not aspire to this then he is peddling lies and stagnation

Don't be such a goddamn cynic. Several centuries ago even Hume pointed out that literature can help us understand The Other, and this in itself is a good thing (from various viewpoints, arbitrarily endorsed of course)
