If you want to be a great writer, there is no benefit in reading any works written after Kafka’s death (1924).

There is no use but to read English matter in chronological order whilst simultaneously learning, or more likely having learned as youth, modern French and German and then working your way around the English-Catholic-Barbarian exchange of ideas after the Napoleonic wars, tracing the development of the very best English poetry and letters, and ending gracefully by plummeting exactly where you belong into Kafka's brick wall and glass factory in order to avoid reading post-colonial literature.
